Do people who are left leaning, make you want to hate Islam?

So Tonka you don't want a balanced discussion you just want single sided threads?
You want all Arabs and all Islam in one convenient lumpen mass?
Did you actually read anything I posted?
Seems like you want to blame the mods for my actions and can't face up to the fact that a regular critic of extreme Islamic practices might be responsible for getting a thread binned.

No, we want links, not reams of stuff.

I didn't have links for that just word docs. Honestly I wanted to get some Arab voices in there and couldn't think of a way of doing it.
I'm sorry if I ruined a thread but recently I've become much more connected with my family in Lebanon, and think there's thousands of vital words which should be considered before making an opinion.
I'm fucking furious with the Hez for what they brought down on the land of cedars, but even I am not going to blame Muslems as a whole for the actions of the intimidating few.

I thought it was to do with sheeple (and I'm not sure what that means either)

Sheeple n: People who behave like sheep and accept any "version of reality" other than that declared by right-of-sensible nutjobs. "All you sheeple believe Clinton didn't kill Marilyn" - michigan militia bulletin board poster, ca. 1996

The New laptop Dictionary, 2006

There's a specific prohibition on "sheeple"-calling in the FAQ and it could as well be read as a bleat as a Kevin-the-teenager content-free noise.

Neither would I; but that doesn't mean there isn't validity in a critical discussion of islamic thought etc.

Dhimmi, you might have got away with it with more paragraph breaks....all that close text....but probably not...

What, people believe Bill Clinton killed Marilyn Monroe? Or is it a different Clinton and a different Marilyn?

Sorry - that was made-up example of stupid right-wing conspiranoid lunacy.

(Er... is this a deadpanning competition?)

It's perfect as an illustration of the "sheeple" jibe, though - it's applied to all those who don't believe something that's patently absurd

Whereas in my understanding "meh" is probably a very, very lazy version of "fuck off mod".

Stop Johnny you're confusing me....

The gin is confusing you.

Sheeple is a word used to describe passive, unquestioning followers. People who do what they're told, whether it's by politicians, or advertisers, or what have you.

No, I thought you were being serious...I mean come on laptop, how often do you see me in P&P? Loads of ranty blokes screaming at each other about stuff I neither know nor care about....

No it was the picture of Bush on the TV that confused me..I though from what laptop said it was a right wing thing, then you posted that and I thought I'd misconstrued...I mean I knew it was a sheep thing, but I just see it used as an insult so it could involve sexual deviance in fields involving lonely country boys for all I know...

Canuck: Quite, for me especially when it's an arab criticising, the modern arab perspective is lacking here. I think a mix of westerners pointing out the bs of the west and the middle easterners that of the ME is our best chance of understanding where its relative. For me each is the most cutting and accurate critic of their own , if that makes any sense. Like the yank Moore, or dear Wafa Sultan.
Mrs M; tbh I have it as it comes attached to emails, it's taken about a month for my Uncle to suss not to send the one's in Arabic, and often it takes several tries or almost a week for an email to get from here to there. I can only repeat my apologies from my PM and say I won't do it again.

I guess if the welsh and sheep could actually interbreed, you could call the offspring 'sheeple'...... but I think it's a pretty generic insult for all nonthinking followers, left or right.

In origin, etymologically, it is. Hence my reference to "Michigan Militia": that'd be the people in camouflage in the backwoods with guns preparing to fight off the supposed "black helicopter" United Nations takeover of the USA - the immediate predecessors of Timothy McVeigh who blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

But then there are posters who are right-wing enough to claim it's language that "normal" people would use.

Fair enough, you could have PMed me, but you probably wouldn't have thought to...it's not like I hang around doing politics...I sort out stains, dispense advice to the troubled, worry about drug takers and tell people when to prune their roses...I'm part of 'the lurch to the right' round here, so people tell me.

Yes and no. Sometimes we are so close to our own culture, that certain things within are invisible to us, although they might stand out in high relief to a 'foreigner'.

That's very true Johnny...when I look at historical documents about a place I always like to see what strangers and foreign travellers say about a place because to them, it's the shock of the new...which is why I don't think Marco Polo went to China...you know he didn't mention tea once?

He was too busy drinking rice wine..

I agree: it's refreshing to see through the unjaundiced eye of a stranger.

Mrs M;
I was thinking more "Hey I know of some muslems who agree" or even "did you hear about the arab intellectual who was smarter than thou".
I saw you lurching to the right on the Brixton web cam...
I'm going to call a halt on my criticism of Islam for a while, thought I might share purely anecdotal tales from Lebanon, but imagine it might be leapt upon to show what dogs we all are... It's quite hard to back up stories from a recently closed warzone with links which so many demand. What do you think? A tales from the Lebanon kind of thing.
I gave up on the ME forum when someone asked me to provide "proof" in the form of a link that the Iranian RG had been there in the 80's, a well known fact for me and a lot of the world. I know of some Jewish members who feel similar, so it seems that those who know least maketh most racket.

I didnt read what you had posted. I found out the thread had been binned before I read your posts - by which point I was too annoyed to really read your posts.

Regardless of your views on Islam, there should have been no course of action a normal poster (other than the thread author) could have taken that results in getting a thread binned.

Quite hence the where it's relative.
