Do people know the difference?

1 The entire history No. But i was aware that britain has had lots of immigration over the centuries..Anti Semitic riots in York in the 11th century,Race riots in Cardiff 1919 etc etc.
oh gawd...I'll take this s-l-o-w-l-y. anthropologists have proven that ALL human life had a start point of kenya's rift valley, millions of years ago. for most of it's history this island has been uninhabited by human life.
more recently; the celts came, then romans, then saxons, angles, jutes, picts, nordic peoples, normans, southern french etc.....we are ALL descended from immigrants, dependent on how far back you go.
2 Nothing if your a Capitalist...Its really good cos then you have the freedom to go exactly where you like...
.
don't be a div mate; yes of COURSe capitalists like immigration, but so do anarchiosts and socialists because by definition they believe the freedom of people should come before and above government diktat. borders are a tool of government and capitalist control

look - are you being intentionally thick? it's f-ing obvious what I meant; a capitalist supporting one thing for one reason DOESN'T stop an anrcho or red from suppporting it for different reasons, or make those reasons any less valid.
and the reason YET AGAIN: people's freedom to go where they choose is more important than the capitalist elite's desire to control our movements.
fuck you're hard work....

Yep and a fascist supporting one thing and a socialist supporting that for another reason doesnt make those reasons any less valid.

You see?

The anti-Semitic riots in York weren't about immigration. At the time there were probably less than 2,000 Jews in the entire British Isles.
They were about the monarchy scapegoating the Jews to get out of repaying loans.

let me rephrase it here; "I have tried to educate balders as to the notion that some people will understand the difference, some won't, and some don't believe there is a difference"

Glad you rephrased it. I mean, there's rough trade and then there's rough trade! :D

In fact we arguably wouldn't have had such strong socialist and anarchist currents in the UK in the 19th and early 20th century if it hadn't been for immigration.

unless of course its scapegoating 'immigrants' as THE main topic of the moment. New labour's offensive <yep they are:D > on the health Service, George Bush sending thousands more troops to Iraq - now those are real issues

I'm fairly sure a large proortion of both would do so.
a fair proportion of both would vote diferent ways on it <Moselyites are pro europe and want to set up a europe wide party for example>

The fact that you think it's something worthy of a joke is in itself disturbing, given some of the lyrics on that album.

Fucking hell! You're a numpty.

Any normal person reading this thread is not going to be persuaded of the 'merits' of immigration.:D

That arguement holds a lot of weight if you knew what would have happened without that level of immigration....

The war in Iraq:p Leaving Europe.
there is certainly not unity amongst all socialists of all stripes on 'leaving europe' (I presume you mean the EU) and Iraq kinda proves my original point: we ALL know it was wrong, and the fact that even the fash think so just shows even they - very occasionally - get it right

"Sorry to disturb you" the great new song from the baldwinettes....

I think that Ian Stuart and Baddriver were an inspiration for comedy myself.

Do you see how it illustrates my point though? Just because someone is critical of immigration doesnt make them a national socialist

I's fairly easy to look at what indigenous political movements were around at the time, and to subtract the influences that immigrants had. Yes, we would have still heard all these political philosophies second-hand, but would they have affected the grassroots activity of politically-motivated leftists and anarchists? Not to the same extent, I'd argue, because the immigrant community, especially from central and eastern Europe, delivered ideas that were supported by experience.

And your "point" has exactly what to do with what I was taxing tbaldwin about...?

Nothing, that's what, "numpty".
