Do bands still do pretend encores?

The best thing about planned encores is when nobody shouts for one at the end of the set and the band have to come back on anyway. sham 69 in september, most people were too pissed to shout so when they came back to do a couple of extras it did feel a bit awkward

When I saw Earth at Islington Mill, at the end of the set Dylan said "Do you want us to go off for a minute and come back on or shall we just play the last one now?"

Everyone agreed it would be better to just play it.
See that's the way to do it :D

Went and saw Springsteen once ......it was enough .....4 hours of seemingly the same song over and over , there may have been several encores.... I dunno.....

I wanted to die

The Fall did a great one in Falmouth earlier this year: came back on after the house had turned the PA off and played a version of White Lightning that was almost totally inaudible. That was the last song of a tour that had been a glorious shambles from start to finish. It was perfect.

The Magic Numbers did exactly that when we saw them near here on their recent tour. No-one complained at all :)
