Do adverts affect you??

it's kind of funny how everybody says they don't believe all the shit in adverts, but sit and watch the tv every night and end up buying the same things and going to the same places
Tbh it kinda irritates me when people protest that they're not effected by adverts at all just because they roll their eyes when McDonalds ads come on.

When I was in Malta last year they kept showing this ad for "Somfi". I have no idea what Somfi is or does but I want it. I can still sing the jingle. Should I ever come accross a product made or endorsed by Somfi I will buy it immediately.

Due to the magic of Sky+ i havent seen an advert in months.

Same with me. Since I got a digibox, the only time I see ads is when I'm watching the footy in the pub.

Apart from the billboards/newspaper ads/internet ads, that is.

Must admit I have been tempted by exercise eqpt ads :o
But I am firm with myself, know I would use it for a few days and then it would gather dust, sorry that's not helping your question is it?

Just do exercise, walking will probably do your thighs just as much good :)

Yes, but during the week I can't really get out of my flat in the evenings or go to the gym... Hence the temptation to buy useless gym equipt...

There was one advert from some sort of sauce on cheese on toast. They had a slow shot of the cheese bubbling under the grill.....got me every time.

TV ad's don't affect me often because I don't watch TV. Other ads just get ignored or laughed at.

TBH I don't think I've ever bought something because I saw it in an advert. IMO I think you have to have a certain mentality to be affected by adverts. I think I'm too cynical and bitter to be affected by them. I tend to just buy what I need and only if it's good quality and good value for money. Things like that don't tend to be advertised.

The cadbury's chocolate on coronation street always makes me want a bar of chocolate. Quick dash to the shop during the break !

Often adverts affect me to do one of three things;
1. Go get a drink or snack,
2. go to the toilet,
3. check teletext or other channels for something interesting.

Very occassionally I may be curious about the music used in an ad. For example the current Honda or Audi (I can't remember) one for Quatro, whatever that is. I still don't know the music.

p.s. has anyone got that, is it any good?

My Dad bought one as he's a teleshopping junkie. They're absolutely rubbish. I had a go a few times. Seriously, do not waste your money. They make them look amazing on TV though, don't they?

He also bought one of those sliding bench things with wires attached. Not sure what they're called (Chuck Norris endorses them I think :D ) and that's also rubbish.

*gets back on topic*

I agree completely with Ninjaboy on this thread. Adverts definitely affect you.

You may not go out and buy something that second because you saw it on TV; but if you're hungry and you're passing a shop, I bet there's a much bigger chance you'll buy something you've seen advertised. Adverts are expensive, and for companies to invest so much, there HAS to be gains to be made.

I hate adverts. I know everyone does, but I seriously loathe them. I do not watch TV anymore, if I can help it, and ditto for radio. I have the adblock extensions for Firefox to get rid of internet rubbish. It's surprisingly good. And for all this, I feel much better! The only downside is, whenever I do see/hear adverts now, they wind me up more than they ever used to.
