DJs! Meet your daddy!

Surely we should be going for Francis Grasso in terms of the Godfather of Modern DJ'ing?. Before this guy nobody really mixed. I'll except Saville for commercial DJ'ing but not for mixing.

innit I refuse to believe Jimmy Saville can beatmatch!

I'm a radio DJ. I don't use decks etc.

Whose MY daddy?

Do you really want an honest answer? :p

I dont mean to sound rude but if you dont use decks of some kind (even digital ones on a computer) your not a dj, your a presenter!

It may be your job title but when you consider that most commercial radio djs have little or no input into what they play its quite mad to consider them djs!

From Wiki:

A disc jockey (also known as disk jockey, DJ or deejay) is a person who selects and plays recorded music for an audience. Originally, disk referred to phonograph records, while disc refers to the Compact Disc, and has become the more common spelling.

There are several types of disc jockeys. Radio DJs introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, shortwave, digital, or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs, discothèques, at raves, or even in a stadium. Hip hop disc jockeys select and play music using multiple turntables.

So I'm a DJ so there. :p

I'll be a radio presenter too if I get the talk show spot I've been recommended for as well as my music slot.

Oh and I play whatever i like so long as Offcom won't be upset. In other words radio edits with no swearing.

p.s. I'm not on commercial radio but on a big community radio station. Its not my real job, I'm a vollunteer.

Also of historic note, there was the the steam-powered drum machine...

soon after the crowd had entered, the doors were locked tight so as to prevent intrusion from representatives of the law. van hoovenaars then unveiled a huge and terrifying contraption. a multitude of brass pistons, steam cylinders and horns had been fashioned together, as like the internal frame of a fire-spewing behemoth burst forth from teutonic myth. the professor addressed his audience, explaining that each piston reverberated on to a canvas of varying thickness to produce a series of rythmatic beats. he warned the gathering that once set in motion the machine "would produce such rhythms that man has never dared imagine - over an eleven hour period".
