DJs How did you get your first break?

Er....have you ever heard Jeff Mills, Terrence Parker or Claude Young?
exactly - it's a piece of piss to beatmatch, but to dj techno properly, you need serious skills.

have you heard any of jeff mills' old wizard radio shows orang? his hip hop cutting and scratching was fucking breathtaking... he could do things with two copies of prince's 'kiss' that made me want to weep.

Oh yes - they're great esp the 'kiss' thing

tis a shame he's so relentlessly forward looking - i'd love to hear mills ripping up some hip hop & electro, old school style. :(

I have (wish there was a smug smiley)
He did a Xmas party for Lost at Plastic People in 04 - disco, hiphop, house, electro - the whole lot all mixed in his usual style.

fuck me. that sounds awesome... did it get recorded?
I don't think so - he even got on the mike at one point and he played Nat King Cole's Have Yourself A Merry Little Xmas at the end

apart from the fact that I'm still of the opinion that anyone with "DJ" in their username should get an instant ban - I think this would be ok as long as it wasn't hi-jacked by people who made no other contribution to the boards.
It should be for regular known posters.

But that's just my opinion - I'll see what the other mods think ...
What's wrong with having DJ in your username? :(

because it's attention seeking nonsense, Nathan Barley-ism of the worst kind - and what if we all put our hobbies in our usernames? we'd have daft things like "fisherman sam" or "trainspotter tanya" or even Stobbart Spotter

I don't think it's attention seeking. People base their usernames on many different things. How is a hobby any worse than say a film quote? or the bastardisation of a celebrities name? What about if someone has DJ as a part of their real world nickname?
It's only a small issue, but I think it's generalisation of the worst kind :p
