DJ Scotch Egg- crap/not crap?

I often see criticism of positive education being derivative - baffles me really, considering how all techno basically sounds the same. ;)

For me it's that ostinato bass riff cribbed straight from Terrace's remix of Ron Trent and layered over an uninspired led melody. Not so much about being derivative but just boring.

that does seem to be the standard view of the greater spotted techno purist. I think the 'hates positive education' badge is the first one you need to earn when you're starting out isn't it?

I spoke to someone who hated Hardfloor's remix of Circus Bells at a techno night once.

I mean sure it inspired many rip-offs but that funky intro leading to the tweaked acid mayhem just sounds so good.

Tho spasms remix of invasion will always be the best track on that double pack.

I couldn't contain my horror when someone from university shared Jamie Jones' remix of Cajmere's percolator the other day. First time I'd heard it as well.

I agree with that person. I always saw CB as one of Armani's weaker tracks & then it got watered down even more.

one thing though, live Is it really anything to do with those gameboys?
I think really in each game boys is a different cartridge with a different set of midi mapping, he normally has a stash of about 8 or 9 game boys under the bench and changes them as the sets progress. The midi maps then go into ableton, I think the use of 16bit sounds is more for effect than actually being produced by the game boys but I might be wrong.

He's also got some other bits and pieces, the frying ban on a hob is one of my faves.

There's a few people doing stuff like this, there was a guy on the last BANGFACE boat party who played jungle with a joystick I think his name was 0=0 if I remember right.

0=0 is a legend, although his album has been supposedly coming out on Planet Mu for a decade or so now...

It's NEVER time for the percolator.
