DJ mixes that aren't typical dance tunes!

I got a bootleg double vinyl with loads of the individual tracks from Brainfreeze, it's rarely out of my bag (or was rarely out of my bag when I djed regularly anyway) - full of total bangers.

Saved for posterity, so that one day, should either Martha or Wilbur ever have kids of their own, they can show them this post and say, chest swelling up with pride, "That's how Granpa used to talk."

:D

Optimo's, How to kill the DJ (pt 2).

A 2 disc selection. It is the first of those, an amazing mix that speeds through 42 tracks by artists such as Soft Cell, Revolting Cocks, The Cramps, Gang of Four and loads more (50+ artists!)

Really , really well put together by the Optimo guys.

The low fidelity allstars were the bane of my clubbing existence in the late 90s - always playing the back room, always playing the same fucking records (the same ones that feature on that mix - the Prodigy's out of space? really?).
HBF

That "roots of trance" mix is totally awesome... definitely dance music but 100% not "typical" and actually succeeded in making want to be in Goa (in 1986 anyway) which is pretty astounding. Good for doing yoga to as well.

Pattern Forms mix on Belbury Radio :

lots of Ghost Box, public info film, found sound, wonky easy listening, pagan ambience, audio hauntology etc

have a few 2manydj mixes, love radiosoulwax. they tend to use a lot of mashups and edits, also lcd soundsystem and that whole scene.

some great mixes on the djhistory forum/site... used to post on there quite a bit
Who did you post as?

the forum is still going even tho bill pulled the plug a while back?

eta,

looks like it's down atm, shame I had an alternative 80s dance thread going strong on there

It was a great site/ forum, for me it was *the* go-to place for alternative dance music, unconventional/leftfield genres... some great posters shared such a wealth of knowledge in what was a really upbeat and friendly site.

I even got to meet some of the regulars when i got invited to play at one of Bill's nights at the Big Chill bar near kings cross once. Really nice people.

That was Overload for me. So much good music (and film, and radio and books etc etc) knowledge that shapes my taste even to today. I even got introduced to a certain Brixton-based forum due to a certain OU.

I remember he posted a link to here and said something like, "these people are way too clever to argue with", and me, being a teenager and argumentative and full of hubris, thought...no one is too clever to argue with!! So I came here to prove him wrong.

Then lurked for a few years when I saw the quality of the debate
