DIY help needed please!

just stick some hard setting glue in the hole - araldite or something, leave it for a day and then screw the handle back on.

forget all this business with drills and whatnot, it's really not necessary.

If its a solid door then get some dowels, shave them down to size and PVA glue them into the holes.
Give it 12-24 hrs, then drill a 2-3mm pilot hole where the handle should go and screw it on.

Like that. Or just use the matchsticks.

If matchsticks fail, then putting some wood-filler in the holes, allowing it to dry and then screwing the screws into that will work.

Fucking hell! I tried the matchstick method. Well, toothpicks actually. On the bathroom door they just went straight through and on the wardrobe drawer, it appeared to work till I tried to put it back in when the rail fell off and now I've lost the sodding screw amongst all my knickers.

I'm going for the superglue option. Sod you and all your fancy ideas.

(((((((moomoo))))))))))

baling twine then?

I think the problem with the wardrobe is that the back isn't held on so it's lilting..

I think I need some tacks as well. :hmm:

Plan B. Ring nephew who is good at this sort of thing.......

caulk is silicone sealant for round baths and things. It won't work.

Women

No it's not. Silcone sealant for around baths and things is called silicone sealant. Caulk is used to seal wooden ships, boats and other things. It is rock solid and harder than wood when set.

Don't get decorator's caulk because that is quite like plaster when it sets.

hello! I need some DIY help please :)

we want to upgrade our loft hatch to a pull down one with a ladder as it's currently a push up one and well annoying. our opening is currently 605x630 which is not any size that means anything in loft hatch terms. modern hatches are to fit openings of a seemingly standard width of 560. my question is, how much of a faff is it going to be to make the opening narrower and longer to accomodate the new hatch? I assume making it narrower is as simple as nailing in some wooden plank bits to get the right width? longer may be more involved, cutting joists etc?

Longer shouldn't necessarily be more involved. It might mean removing a noggin (cross timber between the trusses/joists, then just cutting the plasterboard back to the desired place then refitting the noggin.
If the timber that needs removing isn't a short piece simply nailed between then it will be more complicated.
Pics would help :)

ahhhh, I wondered what that bit between the joists was - a noggin - brilliant! if it's easy to move then that sounds good. I'll have an other look and see if I can take photos. thank you!
