It's very easy to get wound up by programmes like this, but I think most people are intelligent enough to realise that the views expressed by some of those mullahs are not held by the majority of UK muslims.

I think you're very trusting of other's intelligence.
It's another part of the circle of isolation which our Islamic cousins seem to be caught in. IME they're pretty private, which increases when programmes like this sprout up, and the more isolated they become from the rest of our society then the easier it is for that society to start taking broadcasts like this as being totally correct.

What i find interesting, is that clear racism, homophobia, etc was expressed on
the dispatches programme by at least 10 different people, yet this thread is only 5 pages, the thread on BB's contested racist outbursts many many more

Well, people don't expect much of what goes on in mosques, nobody if they're honest with themselves seriously thinks imams spend their time preaching peace and tolerance etc.

But Britain and the British like to think of themselves as progressive tolerant fair-minded folk (bollocks) and so get a thrill out of being shocked and outraged when one of their own, known to be an ignorant twit and proud of it, is shown to be the same as a racist, by the very nature of her ignorance and the pride she takes in it.

That's what I reckon, anyway. I'm not known for thinking good things come from religion though.
