Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille

Yes, but I don't have to like it do I.

I'm not saying you should like it, but it would be interesting to know why you object to talking animals in the only cinematic genre that is ideal for featuring non-human protagonists. In the end the possibilities for storylines featuring animated animals is just as vast as those of live action films featuring humans, so it's not like these films are identical just for having talking animals in them.

I object to the real lack of imagiantion these things show. For example, how many of these films have Penguins? And why don't they make a film for adults, instead of making them to sell junk in Happy Meals.

*calms down, and puts Nausicaa back in the dvd player *

These films are for adults, or at least adults with an ounce of imagination and playfulness left in a dusty corner of their grey souls.

Have you seen iron giant, mwgdrwg? Prepare to have your faith in american animation reborn :)

Studios have been ripping each other off and there have been a lot of awful films with similar subject matter. Pixar is the one studio that has shown originality and which generally is the one to get ripped off, so it's not really their fault. Pixar hardly ever puts a foot wrong IMO (apart from Cars) so as someone who is an animator and loves animation I will always check their films out, talking animals or not. :)

No, I really need to check it out.

I'm not dissing all american animation here...I love Toy Story!

Just please, something more than what we're being served.

Loved The Incredibles. Rataouille was charming and that was about it. Well made, but nowhere near as good as his other work.

Finally saw it last night, minus the first 30 minutes (my dad had a senior moment and led the family into screen 7 instead of screen 4). Downloaded it and caught up when we got back to london.

I loved it. No, not as good as incredibles or iron giant, but much much better than Cars. The rats' animation was great, the supporting characters were funny (The thumb!). The critic (and his doom-laden apartment) was fantastic, especially the 'revelation' he has :)

It was ok, better than the decidedly average The Incredibles but nowhere near as good as Nemo. I found the bits where the rodent didn't speak the least fun, the character of the humans just wasn't engaging enough compared to the rat.

The Incredibles was awesome. I love these films, there is so much to appreciate in them for adults as well as kids. Will check this out :)

Yeah me and RO are about the only people I know that thought The Incredibles wasn't all that. Didn't impress us at all, just lacked a certain charm and tried too hard.

I wish that Disney still made kids' films. I don't need to be amused in the school holidays with witty, knowing cartoons. I need to be able to take my kids to something with a lot of slapstick and a very, very simple plot. They were bored stiff by Ratatouille, apart from the incident where an H&S inspector was thrown into a cupboard.

I've already mentioned Will Self and the resemblance to Anton Ego, IIRC.

Finding nemo is great on a comdown cos of the pretty colours and simplicity, incredibles is a genuinly class film.

Shrek is shite.

Yes, it was great wasn't it! I absolutely LOVED Ratatouille. A real heart-warmer - and it's AMAZING how CG animation has come on so mutch.

I've yet to see Iron Giant. Having loved the Ted Hughes story as a child I would really like to see it!

Loved Ratatouille. The newest one from the same people who did Shrek is that "Bees" one with Jerry Sienfeld, just came out last week here. Waiting until the crowds of screaming children dies down before I see it.:p

Anyone remember Antz? That was fucking class :D Particularly as it came out the same time as Disney's best forgotten ant-themed cartoon, a bug's life. And shat all over it from a great height.

And woody allen's last line of dialogue in the film was actually a sneaky dig at some of the dodgy communist themes :)

Agree with those dissing Shrek - lazy, smug and jsut annoying. Disney pixar piss on dreamworks - better animation, better ideas, better plot, less celebrity driven bollocks.

Toy Story and Nemo I would put up there with the very best family films ever.

I thought the Incredibles was good - but I found concentrated a bit too much on the charcters interpersonal emotional issues etc - which slowed it down.

Ive promised my daughter Id take her to see Ratatouille - its got rave reviews, but that always makes me suspicious. Going by whats said here it sounds like its in the 'good but no cigar' category.

It's less of a kids film than normal - like incredibles was.
Next year's Wall-E should be more kid friendly by all reports.

Hey, my toddler was being babysat tonight at a friend's house. Apparently he watched the first 10 minutes of ratatouille and absolutely loved it (he's only 2). But then the DVD broke. Am now downloading my own copy :)

We loved it. :D

And thanks to this thread I have ordered The Iron Giant as I don't think anyone here has seen it.
