Dishwasher recommendations

Physically unfavourable
Has this been done before?

Our old dishwasher bropke a few months ago and I decided not to replace it. Trouble is my husband is really struggling to keep up with the dishes and it's causing fights. I was reading that some dishwashers now use less water than handwashing so maybe I wouldn't feel so bad about replacing it.

Anyone got any recommendations for any particualr models? It has to be energy efficient and water efficient.

I bought my first ever one a year or so ago and researched all this stuff and asked around amongst people who really gave their dishwashers some welly. I got a Bosch. I've had a Bosch washing machine for ages and they are efficient and reliable. The dishwasher is proving to be the same. I can't remember the last time I had to call out a repairman since I started buying Bosch stuff. Well worth paying a bit extra for.

Hmmm, might have a look at this one. I'll probably have to try Curry's or somewhere for some interest free period as we're worryingly poor right now.

Mrs Magpie must have been lucky. We have a Bosch dishwasher and it's broken twice. The internal layout is not all that convenient but it cleans OK. Our Bosch washing machine lasted 2 years and died just outside of guarantee. We now have a Miele. The Bosch dryer is on its way out after 2 1/2 years. I wouldn't get Bosch again.

Edit: the repair guy who recommended the Miele washing machine said all Bosch stuff is now made in Spain, not Germany.

Don't know whether AEG do dishwashers but I've got a fine tumble dryer from them.

Will have a look at Which? recommendations if you like?

Stay clear of Whirlpool, very expensive shite, that the warranty is not worth the

paper its written on and when they do fix them 9 months later

Haven't started looking yet. Sorry, forgot :o

What price range?

Oh, agree with passenger. Stay well clear of Whirlpool. They were brilliant when they were Phillips Whirlpool but they're crap now.

AEG = rock solid. My folks appliances are all AEG . havent had one call out in 4-5 yrs !

my nan had an AEG for a bout 15 yrs and it only needed a pump and a heater element in that time.

Product Reliability report on dishwashers published in 2004.

Best - Miele and Bosch

Average - AEG, Ariston, Candy, Hotpoint, Hoover, Miele, Siemens, Smeg, Tricity Bendix, Whirlpool, Zanussi/Zanussi-Electrolux

Worst - Indesit

Readers' Recommendations - Miele, Bosch, Neff and Siemens are more highly recommended than other brands.

Best Buys - Bosch Best Buy is the Exxcel Auto Option SGS56E02GB, £370. Our other Best Buys are the Miele Autosensor G694-3 SC Plus, £780, and Siemens SE 25A561 GB, £500 (bear in mind some of these models are probably no longer being sold).

Did a search for dishwashers here, as my one has broken down yet again. Only three years old, it's never cleaned properly, it's a fucking unreliable heap of shite. It was the cheapest dishwasher in currys, - should have known better. I'm going to buy a Bosch tomorrow.

Don't buy the cheapest Indesit dishwasher in the shop again

I think I must have been your repair man.

I used to have an indisit and it was fine, we only got rid of it as we wanted a built in one, we now have a Bosch, had it for nearly 6 years and not had one day of problems with it

you can get really good deals if you go to a white goods distributors such as Ken White (don't know if they are nation wide), we got our built in Bosch for about £275 and the normal price was nearer £500 from what I recal, so it's worth hunting around and maybe travelling out a bit, but I suppose it depends on how much you are intending on spending as you can get really cheap ones in currys etc

(Seein as ur married)

id say get an ugly maid..... :D

welcome back madwone :) :) :) , I used to have a dishy but gave it away because I couldn't stand all the stooping down to load and unload, and the idea that there was a load of dirty plates hidden in a bow in the middle of an otherwise pristine kitchen. Since I've reverted to bowl and brush life has improved

oops, I got that wrong, we actually have a Miele dishwasher. Not a Whirlpool.
My Miele was a good machine, don't get me wrong, never a problem, just too much bending over

while you wipe down?

to be truthfull i do very little in the way of house work by the time ive been to work walked the dogs i knackered an ready for relaxing !!
she dosnt work so in a way its her job she is happy iam happy so we are lucky !!! !!! allthough she has mentioned a dish washer it wouldnt fit in out kitchen at present !! i can ever be arsed to fit a new one i will sort it then .

I'm on the inside as it were.

Get a Miele if you can afford it. If not, then a Bosch (and Neff as they're the same company) is a very good second choice.

AEG are now owned by Electrolux, and are to be avoided like the plague.

Smeg are italian, and build their products mainly for show. They are horribly unreliable.

Value brands such as Indesit, Hotpoint, Creda etc I wouldn't use as a doorstop.

the best dishwasher I have ever come across (cue pots suggesting this thread now moves to sobbingnobbing) is a one off very limited edition model that I call Mrs Pingu

cleans them dishes up a treat, even the ones with baked on stains

Watch out for Zannussi [sp?] - ours burnt out the circuitboard twice and the trays have a crap design - cups and pint glasses just fall over when you set them in , no matter how carefully you do it. I took to bending the trays so things would fit properly but it was still crap
