Dirty Pretty Things last night

cheesy, those posts are amongst the most arrogant and least intellectual explanation of a cultural phenomenon i have ever read. assuming that we understand the literary references, can you explain what they mean as a cultural movement outside of the libertines guild of worshippers...

i.e. what are you talking about?

i think you're all being a touch harsh.

sorry and all, but i've had enough of the Doherty threads, enough of Cheesypoof's rather unconvincing boho lifestyle and its attendant apparent problems, and i think she's a fraud.

So the ship is called the Albion and it's on its way to Arcadia. Is that right? So the sentence should be "the ship is on course to Arcadia".

I don't know - it's all a bit confusing.

it wasnt just aimed at you - it just seemed a bit much everyone ganging up.

but you're right there are only so many straws and camels.

to be honest, i've met 13 year old Girls Aloud fans who have a better insight and perspective on their favourite band.

and yet with every post, you make yourself sound more like a twat and less like the bohemian, albion-bound uber-sexual chemical waistrel you paint yourself as (over and over again).

This "gay" thing... it plays fine on the Internet, but not here, okay?

<whistles> from the analogy you have made in reference to your current association with 13-year old Girls Aloud fans, can you attempt to explain to me what kind of insights you are looking for?

i'm curious, no, really.

I'm just looking for a single indication from you that you actually know what the whole Albion thing means, rather than C&Ping stuff from the website you nicked it from. Or any indication at all that you're not just a total fraud in every respect.

oh, and if the reference to 13 year old girls was some cackhanded attempt at some kind of 'paedo' slur, watch your fucking step.

I sense a bitterness here from your part. But rather than revert to grubby insults as you have done, that aint my kind of style with people. Some people just dont get others. Theres a frustration on your part as to why.
Sorry you dont get me mate.

My mind wont be touched by your poison.:D :D

Well the Albion from my understanding is an old name for England, an England that celebrates the beautiful things about this country such as its gentry, romantic poetry, music and the countryside. This vision the libertines had was to remind people about a forgotten England as well as celebrating all the good things about it. Hibernia is the Irish version and there is a forgotten Ireland too that poets such as austin clarke wrote about. One of his poems, The Lost Heifer, is supposedly a reference to Ireland. The Libertines analogised their dream as a mission, en route to Arcadia, a sort of utopia.

in my own mind i think it is frightening that pete might have taken this concept too far as an opium smoking youngster, and i think he believes that the idyllic nirvana is found via drugs, but who knows. There is a lot of debate on it i suppose, and much to be said and pondered.

this is what i conclude from what i have read because i am passionate about this band, everyone who knows me can see it.

shut your spazz. Not one libertine fan i know has ever made the reference to Hibernia being the equivalent.

I am Irish and i see the analogy. You clearly dont believe that this is possible.

he is absolutely unbelievable, isnt he?

Cut the crap (The Clash) and stick it up your orifice (Nick Cave).

there you go ms spanglechick, my message to you referenced and inventoried.

I went to the gig and it was one of the worst things i've ever been too. Far too many people just standing around, I assume because:

a) They didn't want to mess their hair up
b) Their jeans were too tight.

Awful crowd, average band, piss poor night out. Last time I ever listen to the missus about going to a gig.

The Shins and Dungen however was a mighty gig :D
