Dire Straits

Dire Straights and Chris Rea worked together on the album; Dire Rea.

You messed up the joke. The punch line is that they are going to call the new album Chris Straits. A silent joke, as it were.

Sultans of Swing is great. I don't think I'd listen to any of the rest of it. I did have the album when it came out :)

Brothers in Arms superb of course, fav track 'Man's too strong' great tune and easy to play along with on the guitar :)

I had Love over Gold stuck in my walkman day.
Saw them "live in 85" pretty great.
I like the making movies album best,
Tunnel of Love "like a spanish city to me" still brings a lump to the throat.

Listened to Walking in the wild west again recently after decades and
realised the lyrics were about going round porno shops and strip clubs in soho.
Pretty rock'n'roll for such a square band.

Been checking out them on You Tube, some great stuff on there.

They really are a band that are all about the songs eh? No pretentions about being "cool" or overstyled (styled) or appealing to a certain demographic, or even trying to be Rock N' Roll rebels. Knofler has not got a great or even good voice, but it does not matter, the songs are so good.

You watch bands these days and i generally think the stupider the hairdo's the poorer the band.

If Dire Straits were just abouut today i'd doubt they'd get a look in on the music channels, with the rough features and thinning hair.

When i was a lad and i got my first walkman Brothers in Arms was my only tape, used to listen to it on my paper round.

Was quite into them in my early teenage years (is that odd?), but then lost them in a hail of indie, lo-fi, hardcore, ska and folk. Also i remember a time when they became really unfashionable, like Phil Collins unfashionable.

However, i was listening to the radio the other day and they played Romeo and Juliet all the way through, the light was just right, and i just sat and let it wash over me - what a fantastic song.

Prompted me to track down some of me old albums, and lo! i have fully rediscovered them, what a great underated band they are, really.

I'll say it loud, i'm a Dire Straits fan and i'm proud!

:confused:Most overrated more like...
