Taro cakes are utterly lovely - I never could figure out how they managed to coat 'em with that crispy melt in the mouth stuff... and char siu bao ... and turnip cake ... and .... and .... well pretty much everything actually EXCEPT chicken feet and shumai!

BBQ pork buns (aka char siu bau).
Mrs Miggins said:There's a funny little dim sum place / pub in Clapham Old Town. I've no idea whether their dim sum are in any way good in the great scheme of dim sum because I haven't eaten much of the stuff but they tasted pretty damn good to us. It's called Traders or something. Funny place.

We went there on New Year's Day (it's my favourite tradition) and it was spiffing and also really fucking cheap.Ms T said:We went there on Friday, and it was indeed spiffing.
Hoss said:Hakkasan is the ultimate for dim sum, but it's fecking expensive so strictly a treat. they do an incredible parsnip pancake it's worth visiting for this alone plus the traditional style dim sum are all really fresh and perfectly made, not full of generic grey meat.
I do still buy the frozen ones from the chinese supermarket. I'm a sucker for the pork buns.
have not yet tried dragon castle.
Bumpetty Bump!
Dim sum is a lunchtime thing - right?
Do most places still offer dim sum in the evening??
BiddlyBee said:Is this spiffing Dragon's Castle the one in Elephant? It always looks really empty when I go past on the bus.
Hakkasan is a posh restaurant aimed at an executive crowd.
and for that price, they better produce top quality dim sum!
dragon castle is great. most of the girls that work there are like so sarf london ennit? and it's better than some places in central like Ping Pong.
i think Ping Pong must be the wankiest joint ever - think late 80s winebar and tossers that thought they were eating in Yo Sushi.
