tho now i'm thinking maybe she is sick and i'm being mean about her on the internet!!!!! :( :D

Will you stop stressing!! If she is ill it's self inflicted either through going out and getting pissed or going out when you're not up to it, therefore no sympathy. I'd be a bitch manager ;)

yeh but you do phone in and tell someone you're not coming in. and ranting on about how you're going out on the lash the night before is kinda rubbing your colleagues faces in it somewhat, no? there are ways and means my dear, ways and means...
As you are the manager in charge, I agree with the above.

Of course she's not genuinely sick - she's hungover. don't feel bad about it. If she really was sick, she would have got up at normal time, realised she was ill and phoned in sick - no?

Aye, though I never had trouble phoning in sick when I was working some shit job in which I wouldn't be missed. In my current job, my team is small and it would be tight to pull a sickie

Yep

Loads of people do.

Of course, most of them have enough nous to phone in sick, do the old "dying swan" routine, and then get back to recovering from their hangover. ;)

Fuck her, she's a piss taker, and a stupid one at that.

You NEVER announce you're going out on a bender to with management present and not turn up the next day unless you're spectacularly unaware of the implications. As it is she's been thoughtless given what could have gone wrong.

If you're going to throw a sickie over Xmas at least have the common sense to call in first thing and NOT tell everyone how wasted you plan on getting the day before...it's like calling in sick after a bank holiday on the Tuesday (not that I've EVER done that, oh no, and heard the disbelief in my managers voice...)

She's going to have to make it look real by taking tomorrow off, too. Hopefully she'll have recovered by next year. Not phoning in is just plain stupid. Still, maybe it shows she isn't really used to throwing sickies which might be a good thing, not like all the hardened, professional sickie throwers on this thread. :)

OMFG listen to the lot of you! It's a fucking job, who gives a fuck. She went out on the lash and slept past the alarm. Good luck to her, hope it was worth the despising glances off her 'bosses' when she gets back

It's Christmas you grumpy fucks.

I don't think anyone has got a problem with throwing a sickie. Just make a proper job of it. Her efforts have been incredibly amateurish.

So she's back in today with the "flu" is she

yes, she looks remarkably good on it mind considering yesterday she couldn't move. she's still apparently off her food though, poor thing, but this hasn't stopped her eating four shortbread biscuits in the space of 10 minutes. not that i was counting or owt ;)

hehe silly mare! :D

The issue isn't that she was off sick, just how she's gone about things. She's an idiot for boasting about it the day before.

Also, she's put Dolly in a shit position too and was probably quite aware of the fact that Dolly was in charge in their managers absence when she ordered the 3rd bottle of wine, and thought 'fuck it'.

At our place they phone you by 11 I think if you haven't called in, it's HR policy so I don't think phoning her was out of order.

Quite

It might just be a 'fucking job' but don't bother doing it if you're just gonna fuck it up for other people

Yup, I feel far too guilty to skive now and even feel guilty when I am ill.
In previous jobs I was always off sick but they were shitty sales jobs and stuff so my absence didn't fuck up my colleagues.

And you never say you've got flu unless you have been off a few days and have been to the docs because even if you feel like you have, no-one will believe you. One or two day absences should always be migraine, the squits or, if you have a male manager ladies problems because then he won't ask anymore and get you off the phone sharpish.:D

Not sure this is quite as dumb as a guy who pulled a sickie here, not phoning in which prompted a phonecall home - whoever picked up the phone was quite confused stating that he "left for work as normal".

I'm not sure of the finer details (ie how this didn't provoke a search party being sent out) but basically it emerged he'd been lying to both work and home about his whereabouts for 3 days.

Yeh, I'm the same - same with the job situ too

Migraine's always a good one - no lasting symptoms to present the next day

:D Reminds me of some dopey twat who worked for me last year. He'd been out all night gaming in some Manc net cafe, didn't make the last train, and walked home - except he didn't get home til about 11 the next day.

I'm always sceptical about migraine - only certain people get them.
I'm not, as I did actually start getting them for the first time a couple of years ago - due to stress I think.
