Frankly the whole lot of you should be sacked and probably executed for carrying out work discussions on facebook.

That and also non-capitalisation and txtspk in a professional situation.

It's just not professional.

Neither are inter-employee sexual relationships, in many companies.

I guess my real dilemma is that i feel my performance at work is being affected by the un-professionalism exhibited by my managers. it's at the point where i'm under threat of having disciplinary measures started against me, when i feel that...

a) my 'crimes' are similar to those committed by both of my immediate managers (not working scheduled hours, not performing all the tasks required of me)
b) my 'crimes' are far less serious than the unprofessional relationship my immediate managers have been having, which has lead to certain incidents (such as loss of money) which compromise the integrity of the business.

unfortunately, i don't have any proof of what's been going on, apart from all the conversations i've had with the AM about everything that's gone on between her and the manager, and seeing them in bed together once when i kipped on his sofa after a night out (back when things were a lot more rosy).

i don't want to be a cunt about things, but i also don't want to have my job/career fucked up because of my managers behaving like school children. halp!

Start doing your job and take away any opportunity to get on you or put you on review.
Assure them you have only told the internets about their affair. :D

well i guess that's the easy answer. but the situation i've been put in (knowing all about their affair, being told about what they get up to in the office etc) doesn't make me very happy and is having an effect on my performance at work.

Unfortunately, employers don't generally accept 'But I'm not as bad as those people' as a good reason for under-performance.
Maybe just start doing your job properly? Sorry to sound harsh.

Edit: In what way are they impeding your performance? Is it possible to document this in some way?

You do realise you will need to explain this in detail if the shit hits the fan don't you?

You will need to show how it is affecting your performance and be convincing.

I suppose I just wonder if you are being a bit bloody minded about it...kind of well 'if they do, so can I'...indignant like. I have had that attitude in the past and it got me no where.

I imagine if you guys are friends also you could easily feel like they wouldn't dare shaft you, especially given what you know....I think they would and could...people go to silly lengths to protect themselves in work situations. Seeing as they are involved too, their loyalities will lie with eachother...you may become a liability in their minds. Just wondering...

hmmm, you could be right. the stress of being told by my AM that i have to keep quiet about her affair with the manager (which if it came to light would pretty much guarantee their dismissal btw)? it's not been much fun having to work with a couple of people who are conducting a secret affair against their terms of employment and keep it secret from his girlfriend, the rest of the staff, people in other branches, and our area manager.

you're probably right though and i should just try my best to ignore it and do my job.

i think you're probably spot on with this

I'm sure it hasn't been fun but you will need to prove in which ways and justify it affecting you.

Do you know the girlfriend?
Are you having to lie etc?

You're leaving early because you line managers are fucking each other?
Seems unlikely to be a direct consequence.

At best your subconsciously taking advantage of the fact they may have put themselves in a difficult position if you were to (continue to?) take the piss.

Do your job properly and let them worry about theirs. It's not like you are going to get in trouble if they get found out. They both get suspended, you're interim manager and do a good job - hey presto, everything rosey in the garden.:D Promotion beckons I reckon....

all the stuff you're saying makes sense. i know that i probably don't have much of a leg to stand on because i'm not doing the job as well as i should be. the mitigating circumstances, which i believe i have, probably can't be proven in distinct ways and i'm sure if they wanted to, i could be royally stitched up.

i'm thinking of just handing in my notice and being done with it. can't be arsed with all this bother.

Look for another job first mate, or stay and just not get involved. :)

Sometimes just thinking about this kind of stuff makes it blow up out of proportion, I imagine there is a tinge of worry that they are going to put you on review as well, that can't be helping you to feel good and secure.

Deep breathes, step back.....

This

well i'm not actually claiming that. i leave early because my boss does it and has even commented to staff that he reckoned he could get out of work earlier than me if he tried. likewise the paperwork, my boss forgets to do the odd piece of paperwork yet i'm the one who gets told off when i forget. their affair is just something else which is making life hard where i work. it's all just a big tangled mess that is partly my fault.

oh, and ironically, they was talk with the RBM of offering me a promotion at a different branch, but I've said I wouldn't accept it because the supervisor there is my sister's flatmate and an ex shag of mine. wouldn't feel comfortable with the conflict of interests.

That's life though isn't it - bosses always get away with slacking off where the workforce don't. It's double standards, yes, but it doesn't actually help you defend yourself if you get into shit.
Of course, if he says to you 'you can leave early today', well that's a different kettle of fish ... but I'm assuming that's not the case?

not my type. blonde, dim, emotional, tory, thatcher loving, materialistic idiot.

Fair enough - that's the jealousy angle closed off.:D

Seriously though, I'd sit tight, do your job properly and wait for them to hang themselves. Not literally, obviously.

Is the bloke doing the fucking fit? (Missed this angle earlier!)

That's just weird. I know you're a supervisor but seriously, you should be allowed to socialise with them and stuff, and fuck them if you so wanted. As long as you didn't let it affect your work.

Nah, it's usual for them to consent, unless it's a contractual right.

Does your contract of employment allow you to fuck your colleagues SO? Check your T&Cs.......

Is the shop you work in part of a chain? If so ask for a transfer if it's bothering you that much. Alternativley, do you job properly no matter how galling it is to see the managers slacking off. That's just the way i goes a lot of the time.
