Digital Camera Recommendations

As I can't find a thread like this that's been started in the current decade...

I'm contemplating a new digital camera. Current kit is a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 which I must have had for about 12 years.

Broadly, it's quite good (and can be better when it dark than when it's getting dark) but I'm starting to wonder if I could do with something a step up as there's times when it's struggling a bit.

Much of my photography is streetscapes / buildings - more urban than rural, and quite often involves moving vehicles.

I'n not that keen on anything too bulky / heavy - one thing I like about this is it's pretty easy to pocket it if I don't want to be too obvious, and another is it's not all that heavy.

Not looking to spend a 4 figure sum (I just wouldn't feel comfortable going out with anything like that) but could go to a few hundred.

Any bright ideas? Thought process at the moment is to get something newer from the same range, but open to suggestions.

Is second hand a good idea?

Hi Puddy_Tat there is a thriving market for used camera gear, in the UK one of the best sites for trading used digital cameras etc is https://www.mpb.com/en-uk you can buy and you can also trade in your existing gear if you want to.

Also there is a good camera review site, www.dpreview.com which lists a dazzling array of cameras with associated reviews.

I don't know much about the camera you have, and not much about the options for your next one but if you have an idea, I would head to these two websites to learn more about your options.

Thanks - will give them a look.

Think it's one of those markets where there's almost too much choice still...

There certainly are a plethora of makes and models.

Might be an idea if you have been happy with your Sony, perhaps look at cameras Sony has launched since your existing model.
