Digital Camera – compact not SLR for less than 250 quid please!!!

I'm trying to choose between the Sony DSC-T9, Canon IXUS 750 and the Lumix something-or-other. Whenever I've bought a digital camera, I've looked at the price online, and got Jessops to price match. I don't really like buying expensive goods like cameras online.

Oh Gaaaaaaarfffy diduntchoo have a lickle problem wiv yer Canon? ;) :p :D
yes cracked sensor... after around 5000 accutations on an slr not the same type of camera, an known problem which if i had researched it first i'd have known about it, i didn't as it was an impulse buy, had I i would have found the 350 was far more suited to my needs which thus far has fucntioned fine even though it has been twated by a trunchon...

personally i have found that nikon point and shoots offer better vaule still are prone to beign a bit delicate if dropped...

if you google any camera or piece of technology, you will find people who have had problems with it, in fact i reckon you'd be hard pressed to find a flawless piece of technology out there....

it becomes a rerun of the pc vs mac debates which just get's silly...

i still see it as saying the equiverlent of have your legs removed because some people break them... as an arguement against it...

Fuji Finepix range are ace! I had one - fuckin' lovely lense on them and that is one the most important things. Failing that, Canon, Nikon or Olympus make good compacts.

Lots of "f's"...projection of Fuji methunx. :D

Ed was stoked about the F10/11 a while back. :)

Aye!!! I had a Fuji compact, was an ace little camera. All the shots I managed to get into galleries and sell was done with a little Fuji compact

It was utterly shite in low light but in bright sunlight and with the flash on it took ace pics.

All these shots were taken on my fuji:

edit to add: Actually there's a couple there that were done on my Nikon DSLR box of wet dreams.

Ive only had a play with one in a shop, but I did like it. Ninjaboy has one and he was chuffed with it, as was ed' IIRC. I'd buy one or a Nikon S4

I love my casio exilim to bits, although it does have issuse with low light modes. Not sure if that's a common trait across the compact digital specturm though.

It is, but the F11 has very little noise even at ISO 800. Low light is less of a problem on DSLRs

Any opinions on a Canon A620? I've done a bit of research and this camera consistantly gets good reviews. Its good for P&S and also has good manual controls.

i've got a Pentax Optio S6. cost 230 quid for the camera. its dead small and can fit easily in my jeans pocket. takes good pictures having 6 mega pixles. its got a lovely large display as well. see a review here.

edited to add. the above camera is complete point and shoot. if you are after anything more fancy or you want to make manual settings to get different photos dont buy this camera .

I'm currently reviewing a Ricoh Caplio R4 camera - it's a compact little fella with image stabilisation and a thumping great 28mm-200mm lens - an amazing achievement for such a small camera.

It costs around £250 and so far it's proving to be an impressive little number as a point and shooter.

That looks fantastic :) What do you do with the cameras when you are finished reviewing them? Keep/sell/give back?

In my dreams, the vendor says, "here! keep it! it's yours!")

In reality, I usually only get the thing for a few weeks before I have to send it back.

my fuji s7000 is the shit and should set back about £250 possibly up to £290 if you don't look hard.
Not exactly fitting the brief of a camera that can easily fit in her bag though, is it?

:D

I'm liking this Ricoh, by the way. The image stabilisation is pretty good, the macro goes down to 1cm (!) and it's shaping up to be an all-round good performer for £250.

I wouldn't want to guess how big a bag zenie carries with her! And besides if she removes all the make-up, tampons, a-z & pictures of morgan freeman she mght just about get away with it.

oh okay didn't see that bit. It is still the bollocks though

It's the F11 now.

It's a great, take-anywhere camera for the price.
Here are some F11 pics. The really murky looking ones are through a train window, hence the chewing gum stuck to the sky in one of them, so don't blame the camera. It was the day that big oil refinery was on fire and the sky was very strange.

This was the F11 too.
