Diesel Idlers

    As a (massive) generalisation it's probably slightly higher for an idling car as many engines will add fuel (ie run richer) at idle to make it smoother. It will also run richer when it first starts until the O2 sensor(s) are up to operating temperature and the ECU goes into closed loop.

    Cars with stop/start (eg Lamborghini Aventador) of course don't burn any fuel or emit any CO2 at 'idle'.

    Thanks. If I take your Clio as typical, rightly or wrongly, that equates to £1.44 p/h of idling at 2019 prices.

    I suppose the challenge is to get idlers to recognise that the cumulative time they spend stationary with the engine on adds up to a noticeable amount.
