In engineering school we had to wear one if our hair came over our collars and was likely to get wrapped around moving machinery. They came in a very fetching boiler suit blue.

if it's so nice and warm and practical, why did you stop wearing it?

it was never truly *mine* - it was *the* snood. I don't know where it is now, it never belonged to anyone. It was a loner. It was green. My mum wore it a lot too...

God I miss that snood :(

I not only wear them - I knit them! :)

Very useful if you have long hair and work with horses :)

However my son, 25 and a fashionista, wants me to knit him a black mohair one!

Do you have a pattern or is it just knitting a big tube on circulars?

It is not the tube type - it is a 1944 wooly hairnet job really - can probably find the link for you if you like.

The tube type are very easy to do , don't even need circular needles really. I find both types really useful, but I do live in a windy old place :D

Have worn them at festies too mind :D

I wear a snood. It's black cashmere, bought from a sample sale for a mere fiver. No way would I swop it for a scarf, it's too damn warm. No way does it look daft either.

I think I wanted a snood when they were around in the 80s. Never got one, though.

I did have a muff. :)

No I think you have to have sex first...and then the sperm meets the egg  ....and then, once they're born, they either express an interest, or they don't (mine has a deep love of tube/train/bus maps that overrides any interest* he might have in clothes so far ((((the small boy in the future :( ))))) ).

*He does quite like sweets too.

They were. Why does something so useful that kept you warm go out of fashion.

They'll be back one year.

I've seen people wearing leg warmers, so snoods will make a comeback one day
Snoods did attempt a comeback a couple of years ago (my girlfriend at the time was an avid reader of Dazed and Confused and all that stuff and there were models wearing them) but thankfully all right-thinking people took one look and said "WTF?" then promptly didn't buy any.
