i can remember prayers at school when i was little. i can't remember whether i mouthed the words or not, i can alawys remember that my main thought was that the whole god thing made absolutely no sence to me at all. Then again, although I got sent to private schools where the levels of godbothering were quite high, this was because my parents thought the schools were good, not because they liked to godbothering. i'm 31 and i don't think I've ever learnt whether my parents are believers/agnostic/athiests. I know they don't think organised religion is good and that its power is abused. but beliefs were never discussed further than 'you will have to decide for yourself'
I did the same, it was much more fun, i had a mate in another class, we used to sit across from eah other and swear across the hall, when you're seven its the coolest thing in the world....
...come to think of it, at 19 it pretty cool as well
I never saw prayer in school until high school graduation.
I did, however, get sent to this horrible Baptist sunday school. It was great for sharpening up my memory. If you couldn't repeat by rote your verses you got smacked on the hand with a ruler.
I went to a C of E Primary School (it being the best in the area and my having a Christian background), where we would pray each day in morning assembly.
I went to a non-denominational 'Middle' School (things were weird where I lived and it wasn't a case of primary school then high school) whereby the headmaster gave talks during assembly that had a religious/moral theme but didn't refer to any particular god.
The high school I went to was C of E (again it being the best in the area and my having a Christian background), whereby we would not only pray but regularly haul the local Bishop in and take communion.
Can't say I have a problem with it now as (as far as I know) it didn't do me any harm.
Didn't know all the words. Just mumbled under me breath in a less than enthusiastic manner.
We to had hims on the OHP. I never got to be one of the sheet turners. Although at the time it look like a teadious todying little crawlers game. Maybe I was just envious of the power.
Up until age 11 yeah. I went to a CofE infant and primary school and we had daiy assembly with a couple of hymns, some guff from the head and usually some form of short story/parable (not necessarily biblical - I remember one that was given about Whale Hunting going into great detail with how the harpoons explode inside the whale etc), a sung version of the Lord's Prayer.
I reckon about 50/50 - I believed in God when I was little, sung in the church choir and stuff...
Yes, and secondary school too. Of course by the time you started going GCSEs everyone realised you didn't have to if you didn't want to, so everyone just stood there in silence.
