Knew Jamie from when he lived in Harrow & played in Ritual, handed over a squat to Ian & his mates when we got a Co-op house. Only saw Southern Death Cult though, at the Rock Garden in Covent Garden unless I’m getting mixed up with the Africa Centre.
Fucking love this. Even though Astbury is full of shit as usual, and totally ruins his own vocal, the rest of the the band especially the highly under rated Billy Duffy makes this an electric live performance.
Never been to Pink Pop festival. They must have been a blast in the 90s.
I don't really remember having an opportunity to see the Cult - not that it was really my sort of thing. I was aware of them in all their incarnations because of John Peel but it never really did anything for me. I did get to see the Bolshoi though, probably similar sort of stuff. Oh, and the Fields of the Nephilim.
Weirdly, when I saw The Mission (Reading Festival) they covered "Rain" by The Cult. If memory serves, I think it started raining, too, as if you didn't have enough reason to dislike them.
