I have seen Blue Oyster Cult live. :o

The alternative was A-Ha at Guilfest in 2006. I was willing to give them a chance, stuck them for two songs before deciding that I really couldn't take any more.

Blue Oyster Cult were quite fun in comparison.

I saw them a couple of years ago at Brixton, they are a great rock band. ya boo suck to the haterz....(or whatever the kids would say :-).

I love electric....rock distilled down to its most basic thud, crash, wallop (with the occasional yeya!)

I quite like Sisters of Mercy. I wouldn't listen to them out of choice, but I like the one that goes 'ing now ing now, we got the most of motion baby', indie club classic that one

I think you mean "This Corrosion" which goes "sing this corrosion to me"

Right. Now we're all being confessional and shit who's going to admit to seeing the following:

The Sisters Of Mercy
- for about 10 minutes at Reading after they reformed with that tit out of Sigue Sigue Sputnik in them. I would've loved to see the (ahem) 'classic' lineup, at the time, mind. :o:D
Theatre Of Hate / Spear Of Destiny TOH supporting The Clash.
The Mission Yes, Reading. Quite enjoyed it. :o
Fields Of The Nephilim No.
Balaam And The Angel?! Fuck no!

oooh name and shame :D

first The Cult - no, never. everyone else I knew was always going to see them as in the OP but they never drew me in, always had 'em marked as shit. Time has been clearly on my side with this one :)

Sisters - saw the 'classic' line up on the First and Last and Always Tour, it was ace at the time, saw a later version at Reading briefly perhaps the show you saw? - embarrasing

Spear of Destiny - loads, I liked the brass section and the lack of goth bollocks but they were crap weren't they? damn!

Mission/Nephilim - never had time for either but caught about 10 mins each
at the start of Reading sets, dreadful business. the Mission were on after The Butthole Surfers - imagine just how poor a show they looked.

Balaam - loads of times too, they were a local band, the gigs were very psychedelic and celebratory early on, a good night out. the records weren't so good, by the time they got an album out I'd give up on them

Saw them supporting Big Country in 85 i think. Can remember the lead singer always flicking his hair & saying "Hope you like it" before every song.

Bless you, my child, for you have sinned. But confession brings absolution and you are brave to admit to these grave crimes.

Say 'You run for cover in the temple of love' three times, burn any tassled jackets in your possession and you are absolved of your sins.

Amen.

Are you saying becasue a band went off the boil and truned shite, that you were justified in never ever seeing them?

That is like saying becasue the Clash became an embarrasment towards the end, you were right to never see them when they were good.

Balaam did a way worse rock attempt than The Cult even.

Their following was called The Sperm Bank...I knew of two at least with tattoos saying such

No, he's saying they were always shit. Which sort of makes your last point a bit superfluous.

That is not what he said....

Which to me implies that in time they turned to shit. The statement does not make sense otherwise. If they were shit all along, time would have nothing to do with it.

But only ouchmonkey knows what he meant.

well, given there have only been two interpretations so far, i think its a bit early to decide if mine is unique :D

yours is indeed unique.
I thought it was clear but as it wasn't - just about everyone I knew at the time liked The Cult.
Except me. "coming to see The Cult ouchmonkey?" - "no. they is shit"

then - no-one agrees with me
now - they all see I was right

and on the subject of The Cult my vindication is more complete than in other areas covered in the post. SoD for example. where time has shown me to be mistaken. I'd still argue they weren't as crap as the Cult tho'

and no-one has even mentioned New Model Army yet :hmm:

Saw them twice. :o Once in Penzance and once at The Elephant Fayre. Was music really that dire then that we had to go and see stuff like that? Yes. Yes, it really was.

Killing Joke, anyone? Now there was a band that were proper up themselves. One or two decent songs, mind. Nirvana had obviously heard them. 'Come As You Are' bears more than a passing resemblance to 'Eighties'.

I can't argue with your husband's unfaltering logic.

I saw the neph 2 times i think, I was there cos there were fanciable boys to be found at gigs like this :o :D

Yeah, goth girls were definitely an attraction, too. I've grown out of this now, honest.
I'm definitely over it. I saw the object of my affections a few years after we left college, and it just wasn't the same. the world had moved on and he hadn't :(

piss.

they were a great live band. even when they were cringeworthy.

saw them as Southern Death Cult twice (supporting Theatre of hate, and again, at the centro with Ritual if I remember rightly)

saw the Cult on the Dreamtime Tour (i think) and they were PHENOMENAL. Or maybe it was when they were called death Cult. Was around the time they were on the Tube anyway.

and again on the 'electric' tour.

more recently, in 2001-2002 i think at Brixton Academy and some festival my crap old band played at.

Not exactly a band i listen to but dont see how anyone can knock them putting on a great show.

plus around 1985 all hot girls were into them :)

I saw them in Poole about 1986 ish. I was probably very pissed and dont remember much about it.
I found an old album the other day, Electric . I quiet liked it .:)

Wild Flower on Electric is IMO thee best 'rock' song EVER.

In fact i'm off to listen to it now :D

And are your mates now kicking themselves for enjoying watching the band all those years ago now that they have gone out of fashion? do they think, "god damn it, we should have listened to ouchmonkey, he is so bloody hip"?

Music is supposed to be entertainment, if you enjoy watching them live does anything else really matter?

I saw New Model Army live many many times, here and in Europe, travelling thousands of miles in the process. I enjoyed every minute of it (well, apart from dealing with the arrogance of the 'militia' ... no, i never wore clogs). I would not go to see them if they were playing for free in my garden now and listening to the old stuff it sounds quite dated, but as far as i am concerned they were the business back in the 80s and i am not going to change my mind because it is not cool to admit it.
