did anyone see pete perform at get loaded?

Why is he liked so much?
I've only heard Libertines records but they're rubbish - is he a good lyricist or something?

Clearly you spend more time thinking than actively seeking out half-decent bands to get into...

:p

I don't give a fuck about a bandwagon, my opinion of Doherty is precisely that, and I'm prepared to assume that other people who think he's useless have arrived at that conclusion independently, the same as you and cheesy would like people to assume you arrived at your positive opinion independently. Otherwise, the inference is a fairly insulting one

Oh fuck you. I DID arrive at my opinions on pete independently. and just for the record his music has transformed my life in ways you wouldnt believe - but i wont go into that right now.

but i want everyone to read this

I want to say with my hand on my heart, with all the sincerity I can possibly muster that my love of Pete Doherty's music is completely and utterly of my own accord and without the influence of ANY magazine, group or person.

I never ever make my mind up about anything in my life, or any a musician based on what ANYBODY says. I ONLY make my mind up on the basis of what i believe in my own head and what i hear from the music.

to have an opinion about anything that is based on fashion, trends, or what anyone else says is the complete anthetisis of anything i stand for or believe in, the opposite of the fabric of my being.

i have quite a good music ear and have never, ever been influenced on my music opinions by anyone.

But you weren't there (you see where you wrote that?), so you're just repeating hearsay and the opinions of others as your own - which you've said on this here thread you never do... :p  - and are in no position to tell anyone their opinion is wrong.

You're just talking bollocks, really.

:)

Christ. I might feel like that about any number of bands/artists, but I tend to keep my adoration/opinions to myself, especially on here, because all that writing stuff like this does is make you an easy target.

And so the cycle of sniping and piss-taking continues. Fact is CP, most people don't give a toss that you *heart* Pete Doherty, just that you have this burning desire to tell us all about it so often...

what? fuck you and your pontificating arrogant pondshit. I bet you vote Tory too.

My opinions are 100 per cent honest and my own. I love the clash and the beatles and got up the bracket cos i used to go to squat parties in albion rooms where pete and carl lived. Also, when i heard mick jones was at the helm i thought, well i love the clash, so maybe i'll buy that libertines record.

it blew my head off straight away...a complete revolution in my head... heavenly tunes, a cure for my woes, expression of my ideals, summary of the times, and i have never looked back :D :D

Innit!
Cheesy, You can adulate him as much as you like, but thrusting it down everyone's throat is just b.o.o.o.o.o.r.i.n.g.
Just because you adore him, doesn't mean fuck all about his talent!
He's shite, I've had the misfortune to see the patehtic wreck "perform" and it's been pisswank. I didn't even realise who I was seeing utnil I turned round to my mate and said "what's this pile of shit? They fucking suck." That's my opinion, I am happy with it.
No matter how life-changing it's been for you don't expect it to do the same for anyone else, why should it?
I mean, loads of things are potentially life-changing for one person's life, not for everyone's though. Simple :)

Personally I quite liked the Libertines, they were a decent singles band, but the Babyshambles album was absolutely abysmal and Barat's one was no better than mediocre. I think Doherty had talent but he pissed it against the was several years ago

snip..

look, you gimp. that was PRECISELY the point i was making. I didn't say you HADN'T arrived at your opinions independently, i was questioning the inference that those who didn't like Pete HADN'T.

Are you this thick for a bet?

I bet you vote Tory too

I think that's a fair point - i had quite high hopes for the Libertines at one point.

Strangely, this is a detail cheesypoof has never seen fit to share, despite her determination to share every other thought she's ever had about everything ever.

Given the poor quality of her writing and her complete lack of self awareness I'm guessing she means a school/college newspaper at best.

Doesn't she work for Janes' Shipping Monthly or something? (I'm being serious - I thought that's where she said she'd got a job)

Sorry to keep this hideous trainwreck of a thread going, but back to the OP, I did go to Get Loaded - and Babyshambles were actually very good - not least because PD was sober and coherant. I went with a mate who previously had nothing but contempt for the man, but who came away planning to buy the Libertines albums. Agree with bits of the Guardian review - his solo stuff can sometimes lack a bit of magic and he needs to self-edit his weaker stuff (the solo album is v. mediocre). But the track Albion I think is fantastic - and will be looked at as a classic in years to come.

Anyway - elsewhere at Get Loaded I saw:
The Chalets 8/10 (Irish synths, guitars, 50s style girl singers)
The Pippettes 6/10 (Chalets had a similar look but were much better)
Graham Coxon 6/10 (stuck in a rut)
Buzzcocks 5/10 (dull)
Lilly Allen 7/10 (very slick, only saw last 2 songs though)
Bez 0/10 (turned up late, shouted "Call the Cops" along to HM records playing in the background)
Goldie 7/10 (bit out of place though)
