DHFC vs Billericay (10 January 2015)

After Leiston... here is a picture of the players looking pissed off that we had a conga rather than look at the game.

Fantastic afternoon at the Hill. What a strike to clinch it too. Thought Dulwich were fairly commanding really, their keeper looked a little sheepish throughout. Nice to see and hear a tidy away following too.

The bar can't really cope unfortunately. Shame, as I'd gladly spend more than I do there. You'd miss most the game if you went back and forth a few times. The heat in there as well doesn't help with the all round queuing experience either.

We are likely to get many more attacks like this as our notoriety spreads

As Mishi has said we have all shades of supporters from die hards to fans who want to show solidarity with their community (and we should never deny that or be ashamed of that)

Some criticism is genuine, some even make good points (like tidying up or how come were not maximising food and drink sales) even if made in a hostile way and some who think its not old school way of supporting a team

but I do worry where some of these people are coming from, those who simply hate our diversity (women, black, LGBT)

Our first response should be to try and point out the myths and lies and the positive things about our club

I think we should make an effort with away fans who make the trek to Champion hill , too ensure they have a safe journey, know where to park (and time limits) etc (I know some people already do this)

But we must always challange sexism, racism and homophobia,

ps - we can stop singing the "Dulwich Hamlet no one knows us" song

I think there is a little point but I think its a little more complicated than just supporting your club through paying money at the bar. Lots of people but their time an effort into helping the club in lots of different ways (tidying, promotional work, podcasts, blogging etc etc etc) so if people dont want to miss the game or miss supporting the team vocally, or pay ten pound through the gate to spend the whole time queuing I think a few people having a can is not really a big deal as it has made out by other away fans, who imo are looking for something to have a moan about with us and especially as the bar is at full capacity. As long as more people, myself included, start to put an effort in to helping people like vicarofsibley, others and the club by tidying up at the end then I think we will be ok. Also even though we have a great range of concessions some people may not be able to afford the bar after coming in for a tenner/enjoy coming in and being able to come in and drink their cans or rum etc so would we want to loose their money at the gate from going to the club? tbh I think not.

but as you said until it doesnt take 25 mins to get served during the game then its a complete moot point. But I do like your idea about buying cans or bottles from the bar to take outside though as i think it does cover some the issues, for those who can afford it. I think I may start doing that with the Bulmers. The Thatchers on the draft is pretty dodgy tbh and was thinking of moving on to that anyway.
Simple manners ennit - clear up after yourself. If a small group of us do it, it takes only 3/4 mins to clear the whole area. It also helps set a precedent for new fans who have come down to see what the fuss is about - something as simple as clearing up will probably (hopefully) leave a lasting impression.

Amazing game.

You ain't seen nuttin' like da Ash Carew.

"ps - we can stop singing the "Dulwich Hamlet no one knows us" song"

Never...or are you trying to airbrush 'Old Skool Rabble' tunes out of our terrace repertoire & history?

it was a joke
of course Mishi you should continue to sing "Dulwich Hamlet no one knows us" song

now get back to work you "work shy, lefty, student"

Great afternoon. It's sometimes nice to have to come back from going behind. Makes the victory sweeter somewhat.

The bar is much improved - the separate real ale section has very much helped. However, the average attendance is outpacing it so there's still a big wait. I've heard suggestions about a dedicated can bar. All well worth trying if the license allows.

Oh my - it's actually brewing up for a title challenge!

Sitting with the other old men in the stand for this one, and Billericay first half had infuriating, but effective, nous, in slowing play down. At times the keeper resembled one of those slo-mo scenes in the Matrix films. The equaliser could not have come about at a better time, and set the pink and blues up for yet another fantastic second half performance.

Hugely impressed with our full backs again: Fraser and Abnett are clearly capable of both defending and getting forward, and it's taking our play another step forward. I've been a bit critical of Ash Carew at times, maybe overly so, and when he doesn't hold onto the ball too long, he is such an effective threat from midfield. The free kick was sublime and still travelling when it hit the onion bag. Vidal I also thought was outstanding, he has such a cool head that lad, great at mopping up and making the right decisions during any scrappy moments.

Roll on Tuesday.

I'm well excited about tomorrow night and Saturday, but I also have huge rain paranoia.

First home Saturday game I've missed all season. Got food poisoning. Laid a fire wall of immodium down in the morning and was booted and suited ready to head down to the Hill. But nature then intervened and I spent Saturday afternoon laying on the sofa watching the match on Twitter, as I did damage to my Breaking Bad box set (not a euphemism).

At least I have evidence now that the whippet isn't necessarily a lucky charm.

Sounded like a winning ugly kind of game. I think the main difference this year is the steel and resilience the defence and midfield has developed. Big teams from the backwoods can no longer bully the Hamlet off the ball, which happened a lot last season.

Without wanting to provoke the mocker gods, I'm starting to think promotion's on. Am knitting a pink and blue coat for the dog just in case.

Well our one does, unless there's a really heavy deluge, in the few hours before the game...with the forecast, I don't forsee any problems tomorrow night.

It'll be OK, I'm told the pitch drains well.

So I hear, frequently, and we do have a pretty good record of getting games on even when it has pissed down/ is pissing it down (the early-season deluge against Carshalton last season being a favourite, and there was Maidstone at home in the season before promotion). Still, I'm feeling a bit sceptical.

I should add that my scepticism is more an inbuilt personality trait rather than something based on facts or logic, mind. Fingers crossed Mishi is right there.

Some interesting views from yesterday's visitors and their friends from Hornchurch

Blimey, they like to have their salt-of-the-earth cake and eat it. We're super-rich non-football fans because some of us can only really afford to drink cans and they're the hardworking voice of the authentic poor because they can plough extra money into the club and literally have no conception that other people are less comfortable than them. Complete thick as pig-shit I'm-alright-jack-fuck-the-rest logic.

This is the basic logic of fascism, isn't it? Anyone you don't like is too rich to be authentic, allegedly: it's the classic whine of the reactionary LMC, most notably heard in the idea that socialism is some kind of minority-interest parlour game. It reminds me a bit of Louise Mensch saying that Occupy couldn't be valid on the grounds that some people from Occupy went to a Starbucks.

Exactly. They come across like a bunch of affluent Thatcherite snobs who can afford to just splurge twenty quid on a few pints without even thinking about it (on top of the cost of transport and ground admission) and anyone who can't afford to do that is just tight-fisted or a workshy malingerer. Our commercial department has repeatedly emphasised that our club would rather have lots of people attending games and just paying what they can afford rather than the less well off not coming at all. A lot of the people who bring their own cans for during the game go in the bar and spend money in there afterwards anyway. Some of these people who follow other clubs just don't 'get' what we're doing. We're pitching ourselves as an inclusive community club where all civilised people are welcome, and that's why our crowds have grown faster than anyone else's over the past couple of years. Billericay's average league attendance this season is 327, which is about what ours was only three seasons ago. Ours is now over 900.

This comment makes me laugh: "I for one and I doubt many at the club would want the fan base they have." Why not? Were any of our supporters being aggressive and unfriendly? We're a football club, not the bloody freemasons or a golf club, where newcomers have to be approved by the existing members, and will only be admitted if they're 'our type of people'.

I'm beginning to find the sociological analysis of our club and supporters by rival fans a bit tiresome. You can't please all of the people all of the time, and some away fans or neutrals attending a game at Champion Hill can't quite seem to get their heads around the fact that it's all just a bit 'different' to the average football matchday atmosphere. But our club is obviously pleasing more people than the likes of Billericay, Leatherhead, Kingstonian and others whose fans have sneered at us recently, because in terms of growing our crowds we're leaving them all trailing in our wake.

It would appear that their idea of a true supporter only sings songs like "Can you hear the ....sing" and umpteen lyrical versions of the very tiresome Sloop John B

The thing is that we're different. And we're having a whole load of fun. And that really unsettles them.
