Detroit Techno Purists Thread

Posting in here, thanks to danski for flagging the thread.

We are going to Detroit and Chicago next year and we are particularly interested in exploring:

1. The industrial history and working class communities of both cities
2. The history of techno in both cities

If anyone has got any thoughts or info on places that we should go, things we should see and - on particular - walking routes or cycling routes - worth doing please let me know.

Agree with shifting gears , start at Submerge. Ask them, if you are lucky you will get a Mike Banks tour like I did.

Hook up with some local music lovers online. I have stayed twice in Detroit with locals, which has meant an automatic insiders view.

I guess in terms of the history of techno the place to go would be Belleville. No idea if there's anything there but I think it probably gives a different view of it than coming from the wastelands of central Detroit.

Thanks. I will look into Belleville.

Any views on this from those of you steeped in the history:

There's a house music walking tour in Chicago my friend went on but looking at random nondescript buildings is probably a bit dry

Deetron’s DJ kicks mix. Yeah he’s not from Detroit but this mix is excellent. Keep going back to it.
It’s years old but fab. I am also pissed and stoned :D

Bonus, there’s Jamie Liddell on it too!
