Depressing Songs!

Worst lyric ever.

You know when your parents laugh at your music? Normally you get to feel all superior, thinking 'what would they fucking know about it?'

When my parents laughed at me for listening to this I agreed with them.

Hold on a minute, There's a Light that Never goes out was a perfect tribute to my bro who died 2 years ago and was played at his funeral as was Music When the Lights go out by the Libertines and Hope Springs by the Sandkings (pre Spacemannnery obviously). All beautiful songs that can fit the moment whatever it is. And I favour the Twang or good old Michael Skinner when I need to Stay Positve x

Sorry, but none top Holocaust by Big Star. Imagine this being sung by someone who sounds utterly, utterly broken

Your eyes are almost dead
Cant get out of bed
And you cant sleep

Youre sitting down to dress
And youre a mess
You look in the mirror

You look in your eyes
Say you realize

Everybody goes
Leaving those who fall behind
Everybody goes
As far as they can,
They dont just care.

They stood on the stairs
Laughing at your errors
Your mothers dead
She said, dont be afraid.

Your mothers dead
Youre on your own
Shes in her bed

Everybody goes
Leaving those who fall behind
Everybody goes
As far as they can
They dont just care
Youre a wasted face
Youre a sad-eyed lie
Youre a holocaust.

But does it sound nice?

Fiona Apple: Love Ridden

Love ridden, I've looked at you
With the focus I gave to my birthday candles
I've wished on the lidded blue flames
Under your brow
And baby, I wished for you
Nobody sees when you are lying in your bed
And I wanna crawl in with you
But I cry instead
I want your warm, but it will only make
Me colder when it's over
So I can't tonight, baby
No, not "baby" anymore - if I need you
I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we'll only have to wave
My hand won't hold you down no more
The path is clear to follow through
I stood too long in the way of the door
And now I'm giving up on you
No, not "baby" anymore - if I need you
I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we'll only have to wave
No, not "baby" anymore - if I need you
I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we'll won't have to wave.

Probably not the sort of thing the op had in mind, but

Everyone in the World Is Doing Something Without Me by FSOL is... exquisitely forlorn.:(

Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones.

Listening to the 'Hot Rocks' compilation at the moment and the lyrics are less than cheerful, to say the least.

You want an album that will have you reaching for the razor blades, try "The Hurting" by Tears for Fears.

If 'My Young Man' By Kate Rusby doesn't make you cry, you are probably dead inside.

Other depressing songs include -

'Oh Death' - Dock Boggs
'Come on in my Kitchen' - Robert Johnson
'The Jimmy Brown Song (Les Trois Cloches) - Sung by any choir you like, but I like the Treorchy Male Choir version.
