Denmark v Finland 12/6/21 5pm ko

Fuck, I‘ve just found out about this. I watched the first half hour of the game on my work PC, and I just got back home hoping to catch the tail end of the game. Very sad and upsetting, and I (thankfully) didn’t even get to watch it unfold on the screen. I can only imagine how much more harrowing will have been for all those who saw it happen.

So fucking relieved they’re saying just now he’s out of immediate danger :)

I think that is half right.

Footy player's, like most sportsperson want to play sport. Likely Eriksen wants the game to go ahead.
To me it feels similar to a player with a head injury wanting to continue playing.

Sure, of course they do, but at that point it arguably shouldn't be up to them.

Feel like it's (understandably) been forgotten, but hadn't we already had two incidents of players actually clashing heads and at least one staying down for a while?

Why shouldn't it be up to them to play on if they want to? It's nothing like a head injury where the long term health of the player is at stake.

I'm not gonna play doctor, but mental health should be just as protected as physical health.

BBC commentator talking about how it sends a "positive message" to the rest of the world that they're continuing and I'm honestly not sure. What are the motivations that make them decide to play a match so soon after their teammate almost died on the same pitch, and they've been dealing with the aftermath since.

I honestly don't know which way I fall on it, tbh, but equally that does mean I'm not certain it's the right thing to do overall.

Apparently he spoke to them from his hospital bed, told them he felt fine and asked them to play on.

Yeah, I read that too. Again, I'm honestly not sure that should make all that much difference, tbh.

But, they're playing, it is what it is.
I know Gazza even at the height of his troubles said being on the pitch was the only place he felt ok, I mean these lads will be in game mode now. They can process the events of the day and maybe visit Eriksen after this is out of the way.
