I like a double denim combo but only if the denims don't match; stonewash with indigo or something.

The most acceptable jacket to wear with jeans is a black Dickies utility jacket, though (or a cheap rip-off from TKMaxx or something)

Coincidentally, The Rockingbirds' Patrick Arbuthnot is the last person I can remember seeing in real life (-on a tube train) who was rocking the double denim with any real style.

Admittedly that was about 15 years ago, but it's ...er... 'a timeless look'. Or something.

Yup, this is about what the look says to me. You will also need the obligatory sword or baseball bat stuffed down the front of your flares.

Also going to need to dance with your thumbs hooked in your belt/front pocket. Which was the fashion at the time.

Nope, Dickies & similar were either proper workwear or the highest of high-poseurism in those days.

I don't know about what jacket you should wear but I never think that black shoes look right with jeans, is it just me

depends what the jeans are like tbh - faded baggy or straight leg jeans would be a massive no-no with shoes, but they look great with skinnys...
