Demons

So, Demons is basically the predictable rip-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

Yawn.

The Radio Times had Mr Glenister talk about the accent: originally it was going to be Texas, but the actor changed it to "standard American", whatever that is. From the comments here I'm guessing it wasn't the wisest choice ...

We had a superb British vampire series, the peerless Ultraviolet. Shakespeare to Buffy's Marlow. Somebody just recommision it and spare us further pain!

Ultraviolet was superb, got the DVD boxset of it and still watch it every couple of years. I don't want them to re-do it though, they'd fuck it up and they probably couldn't afford the principle actors now in any case...

That Gladiolus Whatever was the least scary villain *ever*. His false nose was hilarious. Just about everyone in it was really annoying.

Fail.

I didn't read his column until I decided I preferred having a cigarette to watching the last chunk of the show.

Almost exactly describes everything I did and discussed with mrs cybertect watching the first half of the show - down to playing with my hands and reading emails and making Buffy comparisons. It very nearly was my previous post if I'd been bothered to expand it when I was tempted to - he even used the same word: 'underwhelmed'

I don't think I'll be watching next week. :hmm:

I was doing this throughout the episode too :D

They even called Glennister's character 'Rupert' FFS! It was just a piss-poor inversion of Buffy (British setting, American 'old-hand').

And they hang out in a library too! Where have I seen that before?

To paraphrase Chris Rock - "I think Joss Whedon gonna sue somebody"

This is why I veer away from Terrestrial TV, it invariably dissapoints.

I saw the adverts for this last year and thought

Yay this looks good

saw the 1st episode last night

It is basically Buffy the vampire slayer, but a bloke and set in london!

It was watchable but distinctly underwhelming

At the risk of sounding like an old fart ... I thought this was too violent in places for family viewing.

For example, when the 3 demon hoodies cornered the couple in the alleyway, they just started whacking away at them with metal bars, and the girl smashed a glass bottle over the head of one of the hoodies with unbridled glee... not very imaginitive, and doesn't bode well for the writing in future episodes (trailer for next week: ghost of dead child & spooky graveyards - how original.....)

But as previous posters have mentioned, the weirdest thing about this show is the decision for Glennister to adopt a (bad) American accent. How in fuck's name are they expecting this to sell abroad (especially the US) when it sounds bad to UK ears? Maybe they'll redub it? Maybe they should have pushed the boat out and cast an American actor in the role?

Let's hope the series gets better...

Does the world really need another vampire TV series?

Definately the worst thing I have seen on TV in 2009. I was so bored my heart literally stopped.

If this gets screened again I will probably start killing people, beginning with myself.

If you've not seen "true blood" yet, then the answer is most definitely yes!

Although true blood is a vampire series with a few differences (for example, the viewer is never quite sure whether the "humans" are better or worse than the vampires)

Like Joss Whedon did in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We always moan at how badly the Americans portray us, but flip the coin and we're no better. Mutual incomprehension reins supreme.

I've got to watch Demons now. I was expecting a bland Buffy rip, but it sounds close to "so bad it's, well, not good, but damn entertaining" territory.
