Demo against Army 'homecoming' march in luton

Don't these pilocks know the difference between those who are in the armed forces and the political masters that sent them into the conflict zones?

fundamentalist muslims who support 'jihad' - relegious struggle or 'war' ( which does NOT always violence mind but has come to refer to that)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad

I know what "jihad" means, ta, I'm just querying your immediate identification of the protestors here as people promoting war.

For the record I don't think there should be a parade for a military unit coming back from Afghanistan either - at least not that sort of parade. A "thank fuck some of them are still alive and let's hope they won't be going back" one would be good.

Looking at some of the photos I'd say there were about 10 or so of them there.

So the fact that it has become a story is clearly bigger than the story itself.

The story fits a simplistic islamophobe narrative. That's why it is being reported. The vile right wing press are a bigger threat to race relations than a few twisted beardie nutters could ever hope to be.

yeah and i agree, but these guys were carrying signs saying "soldiers go to hell" and so on ...

It's not a question of growing a beard and joining them, I just object to the assumption that (a) they must automatically be some sort of violent "jihadi" if they are doing that sort of thing and look a bit muslim, and more importantly (b) that there are no legitimate reasons to oppose this parade.

Nothing wrong in being against the war.
To abuse ordinary squaddies is disgusting.
There is another picture showing Muslim women at the parade, dressed in burkhas, not allowed to stand with the men.

This story will run and run.

It seems to be a bit tactless having a parade of returning soldiers from Afghanistan a war in which the enemy are Muslims, through a town where there is a high population of Muslims.

I would think that the soldiers themselves would rather just go straight to their homes and families.

But I understand this parading of the soldiers is another new initiative from the Brown government with a purpose that is lost on me. Yes the Nazis will make the most of it.

sorry fm i am making a judgement from the video .. tbh they may be brave anti war muslims but they do NOT appear so .. i am totally ok with being wrong on this

i am not sure what basis the parade was .. i think most people at the parades see them as 'thank fuck they are home and alive and hope they don't go back' too ..

Looks like a standard parade through the streets of the town local to the regiment - dress uniform, band, that sort of thing - boosting the regiment in itself and by reference the regiment's activities, rather than the people comprising that regiment.

I'm sure that any expression of "thank fuck we're home" from the actual soldiers would be of a very different character :D

who has suggested there are no legitimate reasons to oppose the march FM??

yes it is assumption they are jihadis .. maybe a cheap assumption but not an outragous one tbh judging from style and slogans

and sadly also as a recruiting strategy i suspect .. recruiting in the US has gone thru the roof apparrently .. it will start to do here soon :( :( :(

Well, let's not mess about with possible misinterpretations of original posts and so on, unless you really want to - would you agree that there might be legitimate reasons, and if so, what makes you think that these people aren't expressing them?
