I think it's a no-brainer - by the size of the support, shirts sold, where they think they should be in the league, etc. it's got to be Newcastle. IMO no other club comes anywhere close to this.

At least Liverpool and Spurs have won something in most fans living memory - the last time Newcastle won anything was before Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon.

Tbh you're pretty much all deluded in your own opinion of newcastle fans. No worries though.

As the lack of votes indicate, you shouldn't really have included City in there. We know our place and we're just thankful we're not reds.

Yeah, I didn't mention Irish connections.

Are all supporters of Manchester United that are from outside of Manchester actually from Ireland then?

Mancunians are City supporters....

Manure fans are fashion victims from anywhere but Manchester...

.. fairly simple really... :D

No but Irish supporters are a subset of supporters from outside Manchester, I used them as an example and your response was that it wasn't acceptable, you then backtracked from this position when I pointed out how blinkered and parochial it was considering how English teams have benefitted from Irish players over the years.

Now run along.

so how come 80% of season ticket holders are within 20 miles of Old Trafford?

Shitty can't fill two thirds of their new dust bowl.

Things have changed then.

<H4 class=subtitle>Local and Travelling Fans
5.1 Most regular fans at top clubs in Britain (69%) live within 20 miles of their own club's ground, but around one in six live up to fifty miles away or more. Manchester United top the list of clubs who have fans living more than 100 miles away; while Bradford City has the largest proportion of fans who live within five miles of the home stadium. Generally, the more 'local' clubs in our sample tend to be from 'town' or smaller city clubs from the North and from the Midlands.

That's quite an interesting pdf actually. apparently 78% of citeh's season ticket holders are from the north west compared to 72%. This was in 2001 though, I imagine that in recent years there has been a move towards manchester to be nearer the motherland.

that's a fucking license to print money, that's what that is.

I'm going to get some funding to investigate whether west ham really did win the world cup and whether tottenham always win if the year ends in 1.

They must have been laughing all the way to the bank. Apart from anything else, all they did was run some stats off the clubs' season ticket databases. Would have taken about a day at most.

I'm in the wrong job.

yes in ratio Man City have more local fans but since they can't even fill two thirds of their dust bowl that hardly means much.

No, I've not backtracked. Just ignored the chip on your shoulder.

Thanks for the entertainment anyway.

I have yet to meet these fabled deluded Newcastle fans who think we're always on the verge of success. Every fan I've spoken to has been pretty pessimistic since Sir Bobby. At least we've played Champions League football in the recent past. Spurs fans can only say they came close to qualifying and it always "CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NEXT YEAR!!!!!eleven!!1" And I know two REAL LIFE Spurs fans who are always saying that. To be fair, I know one Spurs fan is almost as pessimistic about Spurs as I am about Toon.

city don't have more local fans revol, if you look up the attendance records we have always had bigger support than city, and this is going back before munich or travelling fans becoming common, the Manchester evening news did a poll about 15 years ago to try and finally settle the argument out of those polled united had an overwhelming majority, it was something ridiculous like 2 thirds

that's why I said in ratio to their overall support they do.

fucking hell rev, do you not think that the subject of local supporters and whether or not they attend games is possibly one you should keep out of?

you know, pick your battles and all that.

Blackburn Rovers, if you live rond here, funnily enough, Blackburn, you get this annual delutional trips of Mark Hughs in September annou8ncing that Rovers will be a 'Top Four' team which'll continue until about Januaryu when reality sort of starts to set in and they'll be aiming for the UEFA place and now they're gunning fior the Intertoto....

I must admit that I've never met a Newcastle fan as delusional as the media paints them to be. Anyway, we've won a major trophy mroe recently than them, so we must be a bigger club.

Actually, I've just realised that a lot of our fans are seriously delusional. We started this season in a higher division, then lost a great manager, nearly went out of business, yet loads of them are moaning that we're not going to make the play-offs this year.

I therefore nominate Swindon Town fans.

Yeah, I'll give you that. Some of them anyway.

One recently told me he wasn't going to bother going again cos of the weather in Brighton. Imagine that!
