im surprised to read those words...I hadn't noticed that... but i guess you must be right (whatever the precise numbers are).. Kool FM and parts of the DnB circuit still have significantly more POC involved as DJs, but when i look at producers.... and back in the day it felt about 50/50.
Yeah those off shoot sounds like big room Hospital stuff and the Neuro/tech/noisier jump up side of things always seemed to be pretty much only white people involved, but looking across to what I think of as the proper core of the scene...yeah i guess things have changed.
the more i think about it though this seems true of pretty much all electronic dance music genres...im wondering what the reason for that is. I guess one factor is that dance music has spread way beyond (ethnically mixed) inner city areas and gone big across the country and Europe and the US and has got so many more people involved in production. I was listening to a really strong compilation called Garage Future on Jeremy Sylvesters label (Urban Dubz) last night and its got mainly (white) contributors from Netherlands Belgium France the US and Birmingham on it. 85% white is representative of the English population, so maybe it shouldn't be that shocking...but it does seem strange to me still that there's been that much of a change.
