Decoding Xvid to Vob

bmd

Island in the stream.
What program/programs do I need for this and is there anything 'special' I need to know to burn it to dvd?

Cheers! :)

I use AVS video converter for converting files which seems to do just about everything

However it will probably be a lot easier to just download the Xvid codecs for your PC cos converting files from whatever to whatever can take a lot of juice processing wise and can take a while to do. It will tie your pc up a bit

If your looking at burning them to DVD for playing in normal DVD players then TBH I wouldn't bother. Save a load of time and watch them on the PC if you can.

If not best thing I found for burning DVD's easily would be either Sonic's record now, OR Nero. they have wizards which relate to what your trying to do. So they pretty simple to use

Honestly if your looking at downloading torrent files as Xvids etc then converting me to VOB I really dont think its worth it. You'll loose quality in conversion, then the burn (and then it might get right to the end of the burn and fail) If thats all ok then you could find your DVD player will throw a fit etc. So thats another wasted DVD. From my experience I just cant be arsed with it anymore and it gets a bit frustrating. Im sure someone else will be abel to do it with no hassle at all but for me I stick with keeping my torrents in the format that they are downloaded in and if I want to keep them burn them off as a file rather than a VOB for playing in normal DVD's.

Oh and VLC media player plays just about everything so if you want something for yoru PC get that. Its free.

There may be better stuff around but thats what I use so hopefully that might be some good to ya

well if you desperatly need to play the files in a dvd player for some reason yu can either convert the files to mpg with somethink like the tsunami mpeg encoder and burn them as VCDs

howere as above noted there is lost of quality and in crease in size . also if the video contains subtitles they may not be displayed properly

there are some good tutorials on this site

but if it is just a playback problem and you want to watch them on a windows PC i recomend CCCP

That's a pretty good piece of advice, I do try to do that and like you say, I've found when I try to change a format and burn it for a normal DVD player something can easily go wrong.

It's just that I've found the entire first series of Everybody Hates Chris but it's only on Xvid and I want to sit in my front room and watch it with my gf. Ah well.

I may look into one of those DVD players that can be networked and play video from a pc, like this one.

I've not come across those ones.

However I am sure that there are some pretty cheap DVD playesr that play a lot of codecs. H

Hang on and see if I can find any.

If I could be bothered to get it working on my machine that would have been very useful, thanks a lot. :)

As it is, every time I've attempted to get Linux working on any machine I've had, I've had too many problems and now I just don't bother trying to install Linux anymore, which is a shame because I love the ethos behind it.

I got the dvd player this morning, ordered it Friday and here it is!

I'll be faffing about with it as soon as I get home from work.

So now I've got this thing, how do I play xvid files on it? I mean, if I try to burn them to DVD it converts them and if I try to burn them to cd it does the same, so when it says it plays Xvid and Divx, what does it mean?

e2a: I've found this:

Burning a DivX file to disc for playback in a DivX Certified DVD player is very straightforward and follows exactly the same process as if you were burning data files to a CD or DVD.

Open your CD burning software and choose to create a new Data disc, then drag and drop your files into the disc layout. You don't need to do any kind of conversion on the DivX file before you burn it. For the best compatibility and loading times you should place your DivX files in the root of the disc, i.e. do not put them in their own folder.

Now choose to burn the disc. Certain burning applications will pop up a dialog at this point presenting advanced burning options. Usually the default burning options are acceptable, but you should check that the disc is not created in Multisession mode, that the option to Finalize disc is checked if available, and that the write method is Disc-at-once. Don't worry if you can't find these options - the defaults are probably just fine.

Finally, pop the disc into your DivX Certified player and watch it play high quality DivX video right on your TV!

So now I just need to know how to burn one with subs...

e2a: Fucking hell!! I've got all 22 episodes of Everybody Hates Chris on one dvd, how excited am I!

Very excited indeed.

The subs thing is for The Beat That My Heart Skipped btw, not EHC, that would be v odd.
