Decks needed - some advice

Not sure wot to do need some decks to practice, dont have much cash ...

Was wondering if its best to do

1, get cheap deal from Maplins or some where

+ all works, no need to fuck around sourting out drive belts, cartrages ect

- could be crap! has anyone tried them

2, by one 2nd hand technic now and do something else with my left hand...!

My dj friends will only consider technics

3, go to cash converters & see what they have got (none have cartridges)

eg like buying a second hand banger with fucked drive belts ect

If you decide to go for Technics drop me a pm, a mate is selling hers. Just the decks though, no mixer.

I've been playong out regularly for 15 years but don't mix. When I started dj-ing I got some crappy belt drives which were ok for messing around on but I've got to say they weren't much cop - but I don't mix so it didn't bother me.

A couple of years ago I bought a second hand pair of 1210s and I've never looked back. Even tho I don't mix having the 1210s makes things a much better experience cos they:
- are solid
- are reliable
- "feel right"
- can be easily transported to parties
- are easliy repairable, etiher by yourself if you are handy with a screwdriver (plenty of websites with details of how to repairs them) or by the dealers who I sent my newly purchased second hand 1210s to get new pitchfaders and to get the unit reconditioned
- make it easier when I'm playing out in clubs cos I'm used to using 1210s - this makes a difference even for a no mix dj like me

So I'd say:
- deffo don't get belt drives cos they are shite and you will want to get rid of em quickly
- get second hand 1210s if you can cos most clubs use 1210s so it will be familiart when you play out
- or get other direct drives

I would liken it to choosing a car. If you are only going to use it to do 10 miles a week in it doesn't matter. If you are going to use the car to drive 10 hours a week and do 400 miles a week you will want something more reliable, comfortable and enjoyable to drive.
