decent tapas

Cafe Espana - 63 Old Compton St W1 (020-7494 1271), tube Leicester Sq/Tottenham Court Rd - is also alleged to be good

more like picaddilly than tottenham court road. it's a restaurant actually rather than a tapas place and the food is indeed good, but standard spanish, we're not talking michelin stars :D . meat is actually cooked to your liking. so if you want it rare, they won't shout medium rare. they know me so well in there everytime I have gone there I was getting a brandy on the house from one of the sons :D . good selection of spanish wine there. it's family run and back in the days, ten years ago, when it was an ordinary cafe serving the more usual sarnies and stuff, they cooked the best spanish omelette butties north of the pyrenees

Cafe Espana is the only place that's come close to serving stuff i'm used to in Barca and Sabadell....they manage to make something as simple as Patatas Bravas well, not greasy slop a lot of other places present. Plus they'll knock up veggie versions of a lot of stuff without any fuss :)

The place in Clapham near the Falcon pub is utter shite - overpriced, shite service - truly some of the rudest staff i've ever had the misfortune to witness and very, very average food.

Don Fernando's in Richmond isn't bad - very nice squid!

The Grelha in Stockwell/Vauxhall way is Portuguese, but does very nice food at a reasonable price. Plus they have great staff and Spanish footy on (if you ask 'em nicely and FC Porto aren't at the same time!)

Yes, I remember Carmen being good as well - I still live near but haven't been in for at least two years.....

another vote for Rebatos.

also, the place just down the hill from Streatham Bus Garage is pretty good. Has a number in its name

yes yes Rebatos - its Bar 61 in Streatham you are thinking of - pretty good but not as nice as Rebatos

well, we went and we had a lovely time :)

nice beer, nice vodka and lovely food with generous helpings (we weren't particularly adventurous in our ordering, the main players of patatas bravas and boquerones included, along with almendras, and fabada asturiana...think that was it? )

service was great, lovely big warm welcome as we walked in the door, and a friendly chat with the big head waiter on theway out (have promiesd to entertain our toddler when we take her there :D )

just forgot how quickly you can
a) get full up on tapas
b) get throguh them so quickly - we weren't in there very long!
and c) make seemingly cheaply priced tapas amount to a fairly large bill with drinks involved...

cheers for the recommendation guys
