decent-ish new-ish u.k. sitcoms - how come?

in many cases it's alot to do with the emergance of BBC3, and in the case of in the thick of it BBC4... there's airtime to fill, people can take bigger risks. Often production values are lower on those channels, and star names are less evident - and that seems to be acceptable on these channels - then if they do transfer to BBC1/2, they have the justification of popular following balancing out the lower budget feel.

And the Ianucci political show is 'In the Thick of It' cos the 3 eps are being repeated in preparation for a new series...

Excellent. I hear Chris Langham will also be doing a Curb Your Enthusiasm-style sit-com for ITV soon, about a radio phone-in host. Looking forward to that...

That sounds Partridge-esque. Could be great, could be awful.

I think Green Wing is coming back soon and we're about due for another series of Peep Show. I did like Absolute Power a lot, especially the one where Osama bin Laden's cousin bought British Airways. One thinks they won't try and sell that in America though.

Extras was OK, but that's it. Seemed like a bit of a Gervais ego-trip, showing off all his famous mates.

Peep Show 3 starts at 10pm on 11/11. A film is in the pipeline too.
Green Wing starts in the new year

I watched Nighty Night the other night. It was ok, and it was the sort of program that made me want to watch it to the end, but I couldn't help but think the writers were trying a bit too hard. It felt like they had just been told they need to write a really awkward dark comedy to compete with all the others on at the moment, felt a bit contrived to me, but maybe thats just me.

I think it's excellent - superbly twisted. It's all written by the main female actor, Julia Davies. She's a comedy genius (also co-wrote Human Remains).

Anyone seen Supernova? - made me cry with laughter... but I was stoned.

pretty much all of the regular cast of 'blue jam'/'jam' have ended up in these new sitcoms (excepting morris, and david cann - which is a shame, because he's fab  )

amelia bullmore - 'i'm alan partridge'

mark heap - 'spaced'

kevin eldon & julia davis - 'nighty night'

i haven't seen it recently, but i've definitely seen him in albert square at some time or other
