deafness and homosexual identity

Deaf children are more likely to have gay fathers?
Gay men should consider this before having kids?

Hypersexuality and homosexuality aren't the same thing.

The point was that the original stimulus, ie a sexual assault, might be perceived negatively, but still lead to a sexual consequence when older.

I can see you're trying frantically to back pedal but that's still a nonsensical post.

Applying that logic to my tomato soup theory we still have the problem that the hypothesis has no basis at all. Your argument is built on sand unless you can back up your assertion with some credible evidence, any evidence will do, which supports your theory, otherwise it's no better than saying the moon is made of cheese.

Man has landed on the moon and found it was made of rock but who's to say it's not turned to cheese since? We won't know for sure until it's proved or disproved. Get your Saturn V ready.

Logic and causation would indicate that it's still made of rock. Also, I'm a hard determinist, so I believe that all actions spring from a chain of antecedents. There are no known antecedents that might be responsible for the moon suddenly turning to cheese.

Had never heard of a supposed link between deafness and homosexuality before. Children are deaf for lots of different reasons: genetic, complications during birth, infections, accidents, maternal Rubella syndrome etc. It would be useful to know which of these causes is most closely associated with an individual being gay, or whether there is no particular association at all..

That's a good point: deafness doesn't arise only from a genetic cause. If the higher incidence of homosexuality occurred across a spectrum of deaf males where the deafness had different causes, then it would tend to indicate an environmental basis for the sexual preference, or at least something aside from a genetic link between deafness and homosexuality.

Yes indeed. By the same token of breaking down the puzzle into its components, it would also be good to know more about the schooling of gay deaf people.

For example, would there be any difference between those who had attended residential schools for the deaf, day schools for the deaf, or those who had been integrated into mainstream schools?

The blazing argument aside this is such an interesting thread!

I was counted as deaf (25% hearing) for about 5 years of my life as i got an infection as a toddler and got my hearing back around age 7/8... i've turned out straight if we are sticking to labels but i am alot more open minded to all the margins of society including sexuality...i never considered it might be due to that but hey, ya never know.

The idea of lack of fear of being outcast makes alot of sense...

The abuse idea isn't winning me over...it is a fact that some boys abused turn out gay as adults...but some end up married, or bus drivers, or bank workers...i see the point that was trying to be made (all be it in a less sensitive way than is recommended) but lets not make too many assumptions.:)
