Deadwood - Best Television Series Ever?

the dialogue and characters are phenomenal but it is a bit uneventful especially in season two, I expect a big riot at the ned of season and got none, maybe that it'll be in the two, hour finisheds they are doing

Deadwood is just fucking increadible. Havn't done Season 2 yet though.

Agree about The Wire too. Everything else ever done in that genre just falls by the wayside.

Praise the lord for HBO.

season 2 is the best one personally season 3 is a bit heavy going... i have to admit... it doesn't flow as well ... h'ere i'll shut up with it so as not to spoil it innit :)

you may wish to watch season 3 before seeing the two hours speacils ;) :)

Spoiler alert
With regards to Deadwood, the 2nd series was the best, the ending set up the third series brilliantly, however it was a bit of a let down.

The story lines in the third series didn't seem to follow aswell as they could and the last episode was a complete damp squid. With all out war not happening.

yep, finished series 3 now. The tension was all set, i was on the edge of my seat and.... fizzle.. :(

nonetheless, i won't let this alter my view that it is - for sure - the best thing i've ever seen on TV

I've got to watch this. Everybody I know who has seen it raves about it.

Is it really full of cowboys? :)

well kinda. it's more about a goldrush camp turning to a proper town, with all that involves, but it does have gunfights, Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane and the Earp Brothers. It also has the best acting, directing and script i've ever seen on TV. and some great songs over the credits (Long Black Veil, stuff like that)

Watched the first series, it was brilliant, visually excellent, great characters. Unfortunately it was sooooo long winded that I just couldn't stay with it.

I've just put a bid on Ebay for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons of Deadwood.

18 bloody discs. That should keep me occupied while my Good Lady Wife is out earning. ;)

Tried to get into it, watched several eps of season 2 but was lost, even after swatting up on season 1. One day I'll try again.

For me, "Oz", "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Battlestar Galactica"* are the tops.

* The new series, fer chris' sakes.

I do enjoy it, but as others have said, it's soooo sloooooooooow.

Might try Battlestar Galactica, everyone's going on about it so much.

Deadwood is mighty....i'd place a shade above Six Feet Under for sure, but behind The Wire.

The two share similar characterisitics - unusual casting that works sublimely well, scripts that don't pander to the usual stereotypes of the respective genres/setting and credit the audience with intelligence and an attention span.

The pacing seems fine - actually giving chracters and stories time to develop in a realistic way, not neatly wrapping up every single story arc within the hour.

That rules them out for ChrisFilter then.

Badoom Tish :D

Nearly finished series 3 (can't see quite why it's supposed to be difficult to follow, I would've thought the first series was the more complex), and trying not to imagine life without an episode (or two) a night. It really is excellent all round.

Next up: The Wire :)

My Good Lady Wife and I are officially hooked. We only stared watching it today and we are already halfway through Season 1.

It's a lot more violent than I expected. The nasty bits in the first episode nearly put my Good Lady Wife off from watching the rest, but the story is so good we couldn't help but continue to watch.

The Doc is my favourite character by a long way.

Just put this (S1 E3) on for a lazy day off rewatch and it is still as brilliant as first watch.

Slightly ruined by the cunt mowing his lawn next door 🙄
