Dead Space

Downloaded this, Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 last night... sweeet

If only it wasn't so cold in my office/wank chamber.

Is Fable 2 coming out on PC?

I was quite sad by what had just happened.

There were a couple of bits that tugged my petrified heart strings too - oddly, perhaps not the bits that would do it for most people.

:)

Some decent voice acting too - Ron Glass from Firefly, Julia Swahalwahahala, Zoe Wannamaker and Stephen Fry all play main characters.

Just got a 360 with this, was originally thinking it would be a good trade in (bartered out of the HMV manager) but been getting into it earlier.

Eh? Which game are you referring to?

Fable 2!

Sorry - the thread veered away from the content it's title promises!

Back to Dead Space:

I am now playing this and up until about an hour ago, I was really enjoying it.

Sadly the shine has been taken off somewhat by an utterly tedious, redundant, immersion-jarring "on rails shooter" section.

The irritating controls, unnecessarily overheating guns and general difficulty/fiddly-ness lead me to throw the controller at the wall and go and do something less irritating instead.

FFS what a stupid design decision, marred even further by unconvincing mechanics/woolly controls.

grr.

I'm quite liking it, but you're right - unnecessarily fiddly controls - I'm playing on PC, and I just don't understand why you need to aim your weapon with the right mouse button - surely that's one of the main benefits of playing with a keyboard and mouse - you shouldn't need to. Ho hum...

ugh - that does sound annoying...

On the PS3 you draw the weapon with a shoulder button, aim with the right analogue stick and shoot with the other shoulder button - pretty much standard controls for this kind of game and it works well.

It has so far only been this very specific section of the game, where the actual mechanics change that has annoyed me so far.

Plus collecting "credits" to buy upgrades, and farting around with "nodes" doesn't actually add anything to the "realism" they admirably wanted to create by making you use mining tools rather than conventional weapons, and finding things in the environment of a mining ship.

So who's running the shop then? Bit silly.

Yes - a lot of those aspects are a little daft and contrived if you think about them too hard.

That said, it worked for Resident Evil 4 and it works here IMO if you are prepared to suspend disbelieve a little!

eh, it's a massive commercial mining ship of course there would be credits and nodes knocking about it, as for whose manning the stores, well have you ever heard of these fantastically futuristic things called vending machines, they even have ones that make coffee.

I'm up to chapter 5, still enjoying it, not the sort of thing I'd be bothered with usually. Jumpy as fuck at times.

I take it there is no particular secret to the irritating shooty bit at the end of chapter 4 then?

It is annoying me.

None that I know. It was annoying me too (and I play on easy). I just played it about 20 times in a row, then let my 8 year old have a go.

He must've been so bad the AI thought 'this fella is never gonna do this':D and I did it a few tries after.

It did seem a matter of trying to hit them when they were furthest away but then a big one can come out of nowhere and the controls seem really sensitive so the gun is all over the place.

I can't believe I'm offering someone advice on playing video games :D:rolleyes:

dogmatique , invest in a 360 controller ;)

Hmm. Mebbee... I've just been WSAD for so long...

Thing is though, most games seem to be ports of 360 games these days. The aiming thing is there with Far Cry 2 as well - and it's why I didn't really get into Gears of War...

I don't mind some (and I mean some) lag in aiming, makes a game more realistic as instant movement with no inertia makes things a bit daft and easy.

from what ive read in the reviews , the main problem with dead space on pc is the keyboard controls , thing is i much prefer the keyboard control system for fps that i try not to get fps's on anything but pc.

:)

C/F, you go on about earning good money on other threads, how can you still DL brand new games, piracy will utimately kill at least the PC platform, Far cry is now multi-platform because of the pirates.

I'm paying back a fuck load of debt, so the good money is neutralised.

Anyway, that's besides the point. You're right, which is why I always pay for games that I know I'll play for more than an hour. Last game I played at any length was Mass Effect, which I bought. I suppose I treat warez copies as demos.

finished it and on ebay it goes... wicked game

also far cry had always been multi-platform init...

safe

Had a quick blast. Any way to make it 1st-person? That view seems a little clunky. Very satisfying melée attack.

Doesn't look half as scary as Resident Evils.

lights off, 5.1 souround sound on....

not scary but you can get sucked in and when something does happen you do jump a little...

i liked it anyway

yeah only one view...

i recomned the disc cutter thing and the line rack gun ( the wide one ) as soon as you can afford them :)

Some youtuber was saying DS2 felt like a new game even though it was a decade old.
Might play it again, its in my steam library.
