There had been a funny smell in flat for about a week. I thought the fridge just needed a good clean.
Last night a realised that it was coming from around the sink area but as it had been leaking recently, thought it must be damp.
Got home tonight and the smell was very pungent.
Pulled out the cupboard under the sink and eventually found the bucket that had been put there to catch drips from the leaky tap.
Thought, oh that's it, there is some mould in the bucket, that's what smelling.
Hang on, why is the mould in bubbles and moving.
It took a lot of looking until i realised that what i was looking at was the heavily decayed remains of two mice that were nothing but tails and bubbles with maggots in them!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank fully I had some latex gloves, antibacterial spray, Oust and a quick route to an outside bin well away from the flat.

*puke*

Sorry just needed to share. :o

I once went to stroke a baby hedgehog I saw curled up on a barn floor in a straw nest. It was moving gently, like it was breathing.

That was the maggots, eating it from underneath.

:(

KittyP, I hope that you have recovered. I was at a tender age when the hedgehog thing happened, and I dreamt of it for years.
Yuk.

I have not recovered as I can still frinkin smell it!!

The windows and doors have been open for hours and I have sprayed loads of Oust.

I think maybe I am just imagining I can smell it now :(

Have you got any Vicks? Or Vaseline, which you can add a tiny drop of lemon or tea tree oil to? Or Savlon, in an emergency?

Dab it under your nostrils asap.

:)

My cat has taken to leaving me an offering of a different rodent's stomach on the front step every morning this week. He positions it right in the middle where you step. It's ever so thoughtful of him

Aw.... :hmm:

I always find it convenient when mother nature provides maggots to eat up dead rodents.

If they didn't, we would be up to our necks in them. :p
