De la Hoya v PacMan thread

I just "LOVE" Manny.....He took him apart, it was beautiful...like they said Oscar looked old, but he had an answer for everything :)

On a side note it ws satisfying to see Amir win & I hope the lad does well, it's not really his fault for the hype & I'd love it if he could get a belt...it wasn't good to see Fraudley after his loss though....the guy seriously looks in need of a trip to the Maudsley!

BTW keep up the boxing threads!

PPLive could be a good option for these streams. It doesn't usually have any western stuff but it does have CCTV5. Most people won't be using it, so the streams are very good.

Wow. A busy night of fights.

Really pleased for Manny. Wonder if he'll fight Hatton now? Not if Ricky has any sense!

And well done, too, to Carl Froch. I know he really wants Calzaghe, but wonder whether it'll happen - not sure that he's a big enough name to tempt Joe. Although the purse could be big for a home-grown clash at Wembly or Cardiff's Millenium stadium, I suppose.

Good to see Amir bounce back. I know there'll always be doubts about his chin, now, but maybe that'll do him a favour, in forcing him to work more on his defence. Some fantastic fighters have been beated early in theitr careers and gone on to be true greats. I'm not saying he will, necessarily, but you can't ask for a much more positive response to a defeat than that - much better than the way, say, Naseem hamed crumbled after losing to Barrera.

As for Audley - oh dear!

the froch fight was superb, absolutely brutal from start to finish

the destrruction of de la hoya looks like it might be up on demonoid but I'll wait until later today until there is a definite decent version to grab

He's a tough bloke Rogan you know.

Very strong.

Yes, but my God is he crude and at his age he isn't likely to get too much better. It could be fun to see him have a couple of fights at British title level. Although a Rogan - Skelton fight would cause boxing purists to spontaneously combust.

On the big fight of the weekend, holy shit was it great to see Pacquiao do that. I was completely wrong in thinking that he hadn't a hope, although I think this fight says as much about De La Hoya's future as it does about Pacquiao. He is clearly well past his prime if he can't handle a boxer that much smaller than him. He had every physical advantage, except speed.

Can you remember Ali, SRL having an absolute shocker in the boxing ring towards the end of their career?

It's a strange spectacle. Although this was very strange given the natural weight difference.

speed kills.

Do you still feel that Hatton v De La Hoya is still a total mismatch?

I didn't see the match, but from what I've been told, De La Hoya was weight drained.

But it sounds like he's gone for ever.

For over 2 years he's been talking about the desire isn't there etc. It happens to a lot of fighters as I said before, Ali included.

Hatton De La Hoya?

Depends. If DLH's heart isn't in it - it wouldn't be a mismatch. :D

Hatton doesn't have the pace of PacMan.

watched this last night finally - pacquaio absolutely destroyed de la hoya - he is so fast and packs a fuck of a punch as well - solid. His foot and hand speed is incredible.

De la Hoya looked like an old man slowly lumbering forward getting picked off with multiple shots over and over...

He didn't look all that v Forbes either.

Were there any close fights on judgment night?I'm watching the replay for free on sky atm, seems like a complete waste of money. Was good to see khan fight back from his defeat though.

The only one I was half arsed to watch was Rogan v Harrison - and that wasn't exactly going to be one for the purists was it?
