Day of the Dead event at British Museum

I'm most excited about this, I hadn't even thought of all the lovely food that might be on offer.
mmm. now i'm hungry :(

We'll be there in force tomorrow, followed by drinks in the Ship Tavern in Holborn if anyone fancies joining us, and then hopefully some Mexican nosh

We will be there early I expect - from the time it opens. So expect to miss most urbs but if you around for the 1st of the processions, let me know :)

I'm not sure if I can come to this - though would really like to as i'm a big fan of all the skeletons - but will see what happens.

That's at 1.30? We'll be there :)

Yay! We will hopefully be too. Unless he gets freaked out. He wouldn't wear his (not at all scary) halloween outfit today so he may well go into freaky meltdown before then. I am hoping that he doesn't know what a skeleton is though :D

I think I may be the first back. It ws rammed. Didn't see anyone and battery on my phone was virtually dead so I couldn't speak to anyone - apols if you called :o

People had been queuing for over an hour to get in  when we left - Mango5 and golightly were going to have another go later so they may make it eventually.

Bugger all postcards madz but I have got you something else  Took pics - will put up after I've had a restoratative cup of tea :)

Fuck's sake. I just emailed my ex to ask if she was going to this cos we are trying not to come into contact in the first few months and she said "I am now! Thanks so much for letting me know about it! :D"

No...no, you miss the point, dear...

Soooooooooooooooooooo, anyway, I don't think I am gonna go now.

I don't think you'd bump into each other. I've just come back from it and there's fukkin millyons of folks there.

It was packed wasn't it? We saw loads of damp people queuing to get in when we left and felt ever so smug about it.
I think I saw you Trashy. Were you wearing glasses today? :hmm:

We really enjoyed the face painting and the story telling but I was disappointed that the workshops weren't ticketed or at least held within specific time slots. They just said "we're full, you can check back later and see if you're lucky". Other than that it was splendid.

I also felt a bit smug - we didn't queue at all. I had no idea there were queues! I was wearing glasses - you should have come and said hello! Or was I looking too harrassed and grumpy? :o

We didn't do any of the workshop stuff - the foal didn't fancy any of them but the system wasn't great. The queues for food were unbelievable too - we just got nachos in the end

We loved the mariachi band and dancers and the parade though :)

We walked straight past you, I did smile and nod at you both :)
I didn't say hi just in case it wasn't you and I had to explain myself to some poor woman who would think I was deranged :o
Food queues were not funny. We decided to piss off at that point and had some lunch at a cafe.

Oh did you? Sorry - am rubbish at recognising people unexpectedly in crowded situations. Just had a text from scifisam and she and mini sfs are going to be in the next parade :)

Here are my photos - I'm not much of a photographer but they give a bit of a flavour. Madz - there is a flickr group you could have a look at too - flickr/groups/dotd apparently

We circled the Museum 3 times trying to get in but the crowds and queues were bonkers... so we ended up in the pub early, with the smugness coming from the fact that at least we managed to get into town today! Unlike many others who had perhaps celebrated very much last night, we had a very nice time today with zeppo, ngeru, William of W, paolo999 and others :)

Glad to hear that you early birds had fun.

I went through to get dressed about 1pm then thought, 'ah, can't be bothered' and lay about in my pants for a while more.

Do I get a smug prize?

because of relentless partying on the 31st, i didnt arrive at the museum til 3:30..by then it was just a short wait to get in and best of all...i was starting to feel well enough to enjoy it:) loved the skeleton parade and paper mache animals and the alters in general:D made me want to make more altars for my place..:D
loved the pics people have posted..i wasnt on full power so left fone and camera at home:facepalm:
i stopped by the ship at around 5:30pm but all the urbans had moved on.
i would have been so up for the mexican meal(hope it was fab!!)..shame i forgot my fone but glad i made it to day of the dead!

Yes :)

I'm just glad I didn't pop out for a fag like I was planning to at one point - I would have been trapped outside

ah it looks like it was aces. I couldnt make it as i have fucked my neck up again and am currently walking about like an extra from thriller with one arm dangling uselessly at my side head at dodgy angle. I did think it would be rammed so maybe staying put was the sensible option even if it was tedious and there were no buritos. :(

A friend and I rolled up around 1pm, got in no problem  :p It was pretty rammed though.

The mariachis and dancers were great, and the crowd was pretty decent - there were even people from Mexico/alternative Latin countries singing along  :D

Because of the crowds it was a little difficult getting around and seeing stuff, but still a good day. Just wish there had been one sugar skull in the gift shop that wasn't broken :(

This would have been right up my spooky street if my spooky street wasn't in Essex. And then I was in Nottingham anyway. But if I hadn't been in Nottingham I would have come to this as I too am a fan of skeletons especially skeletens that play guitars or ride bicycles and of skulls too especially when made of sugar.
