Dark/Dirty Drum n Bass thread

total science are still about, they seem to be quite prolific. "going in circles" is one of their recent ones that i really like. and q-project (half of total science) has been releasing stuff on hospital lately.

QUOTE]I hate all the Scud/Bong Ra shite though[/QUOTE]

I love that stuff

But I was surprised how much I loved the sumone / sixteenarmedjack record

Totally different for me

:)

I do listen to it d'n'b milesy - my flatmate likes it - the last thing I heard was a mix by Twisted Individual. I did kinda like a recent Andy C mix on React. The last individual track I remember actively liking was Dillinja's Grimey.

is it mainly that sort of stuff your flatmate listens to, the main room big name jump-up?

I used to hate Drum n Bass until I started going to Unsound and listening to the good stuff! :)

Prior to that I'd only heard the mainstream stuff and I really didn't like it...

No, he likes a lot of techstep too, though not the Hospital type shit- those examples were the jsut the first that came to mind

i've tried to like tech-step, but really i can only take it in small doses. i do like the more funkier stuff - "neurofunk" as it gets called these days - like old ed rush and optical, and some of the no u turn stuff you mentioned. i find that it all tends to sound the same. but saying that there are probably tunes i like that people would say are tech-step. it all gets too confusing.

it's all jungle in the end, after all ;)

I don't really give a shit whether stuff is jump-up, jungley, dark/dirty etc, as long as it sounds good. I think Pendulum have done some well cheesey jump-up but look at some of their other tunes like Back to you, Vault, Girl in the Fire are fucking fantastic dnb tunes! Same with some of Shy-FX's recent digital soundboy project stuff, they may be a bit cheesey but musically a lot of it is great! Other artists I'm liking at the moment is TC (cracking Bristol producer), Chase and Status, Baron and Subfocus.

My only slight gripe is with Fresh, I like a lot of his tunes, especially stuff like Capture the Flag but ever since he got hold of Pendulum onto Breakbeat Kaos, Pendulum can't help but make cheesey trancey tunes (some of which are still pretty good. My mate calls them chest hair ticklers.)

Anyway, enough of my incoherent babble, my main point is, if you like it and it sounds good, who gives a shit if its cheesey and not like jungle (which incidentally I think is a load of mostly boring shite :p )

Peeps I'm particularly feeling at the moment include Corrupt Souls, Hochi & Infiltrata, Chris SU, Raiden, Propaganda, Evol Intent, Silent Witness, Break, Skitty and Counterstrike.

I did a Therapy Sessions promo mix about 6 months ago: getting a bit long in the tooth now (part two is on the way) but the tunes are still wicked.

Any of any of you lot are Bristolites then get ye to the Therapy Sessions post-haste! Or to the London leg, which is tonight actually. Oh no, I've said too much, spam alert...!

...thought this old thread was as appropriate as any to say this:

Im a bit of an old cheesy quaver and whilst Ive stayed pretty faithfull to dnb for all these years, I havent really listened to any in the last 12months... but I tuned in to the radio the other day and ...ssssssssssssssssh~ nasty! DnB is sounding BIG right now!

thats all Ive got to say on the matter. BIG!
...never sounded so heavy. Normally Im not even all that into the upfront stuff, but I just love the sound right now.

Whats a good session going on in London these days? (no crappy bar/club soundsystems please!)
