I love the allmusic entry for these guys:

Pop music has been combined with dark, depressing, imagery by New Jersey-based duo, Daphne and Celeste. Featuring the singing talents of teenagers, Daphne Cruz (born: September 24, 1983) and Daphne DiConcetto (born: December 1, 1982), the duo has not been universally accepted. Their performance at Reading 2000 was stopped after two songs when audience members began throwing bottles onto the stage.

Meeting each other when they answered a newspaper ad placed by a band seeking a vocalist, Celeste and Daphne began performing as a duo soon afterwards. After honing their skills via street performances and commercials, the two singers released their debut single, "Ooh Stick You" in September 1999. Reissued in January 2000, the tune rose to the eighth position on the pop charts. Their second single, "U.G.L.Y.", reached number sixteen.

Releasing their first full-length album, We Didn't Say That, in June 2000, Daphne and Celeste continued their commercial success with their third single, a reworked version of Alice Cooper's anthem, "School's Out", which they recorded with different lyrics.

A colleague today mentioned that they were back, and with an electro-pop sound.

For those that have never seen it, here's the Reading 2000 moment…

Dark times. ETA (at Butchers)

That Guardian piece is great though and confirms my thesis above:

“Backstage, Slipknot and Rage Against the Machine were coming up to us and telling us how hardcore we were – how they wouldn’t have stayed out there. It was definitely the best thing we did, our crowning achievement.”

I saw them get bottled off at Reading. It was incredible. I also saw The Rasmus get destroyed by the Reading crowd too. That one seemed more deserving but I enjoyed both bottlings hugely.

I'm an awful awful person. :)

They should never have been booked for Reading, a cruel joke at their expense that could only ever end one way.

They're BACK!

'Ooh Stick You' hitmakers Daphne & Celeste return with new track 'BB' from comeback album - NME

Oh I dunno. I think they're fucking great for going ahead with it. It was the bottling of all bottlings and they fucking took it.
Most rock bands would have swiftly slunk off but I have to join in with the admiration of their attitude. Proper hardcore.

Okay, respect is due to you guys for creating, resurrecting and keeping this Thread alive.

I must confess that D&C completely passed me by musically, even though I'd heard of them. But I absolutely loved that "BB" track and quickly rocketed over to Music Magpie and picked up the last copy of the second album for £1.99 - result!

I also had a spare £5 Paypal e-voucher and used it to buy the debut album for £1.20 on Discogs - another result!

I'm not sure if I'll like the first album, but I'm pretty certain the second should be an electropop blast - thank you all for enlightening me!☺️
