Dangerous places....

I second Nairobi, even during the day it felt dodgy as fuck, I felt far safer in a poorly guarded campsite in the Serengeti :D

Nairobi is fine if you stay on the right side of Kenyatta Avenue.

Mine worst is probably Freetown, Sierra Leone.. just as the coup happened! Was there for a month whilst all that was going on.

Caracas, Venezuela (no trouble but felt a bit uneasy)
Bogota, Colombia (which I did not think was too threatening)
Josephine Avenue, Brixton

Since my last post (five years ago) I have been to Russia and the dangers I encountered from Russian Neo Nazis are documented here

http://lasttraintolhasa.wordpress.com/2007/12/09/moscow-and-a-run-in-with-russian-neo-nazis/

And the dangers I encountered on the Trans Siberian Express from mafia dudes who were scared of flying are documented here

oh, that looks like it might be a good read. Hope someone bumps this thread to remind me

(actually, I'll bookmark them).

Cheers Fingers

No probs, some of it was written late at night in bars so please forgive any dodgy grammar/pissed up ramblings!

Lived in lower Clapton when it was 'murder mile'.

But as for proper dodgy, Bramley in Leeds. Plank of wood came through the window of the car there ripping a mate's face. Always felt a bit uneasy in Grangetown Middlesbrough too but never came to any harm.

I really enjoyed reading those - nice one

Yeah, me too. On the way home from work one evening I walked past a taped-off bit at the top of my road where there'd been a botched 'hit' and an 18 month old girl had ended up with shrapnel in her legs. First time I went along the 'mile' in a bus I was privileged to see the immediate aftermath of an execution - BMW slewed across the road and a lake of fresh blood all around it. Thankfully they'd scooped the body up into the ambulance by this point. Then there was the time where literally up the road from me somebody got 'taken out' (and not Nicholas Parsons style either) and their car had ploughed into the queue at a bus stop, injuring loads of people.

Also - that legendary pub by West Norwood Cemetry, can't remember the name now, quite a few people on here know it. After dodging a fight in the gents, I had problems leaving due to the sudden appearance of three 'chaps' built like brick shithouses and covered in neo-nazi tats piling through the front door to settle some kind of beef and causing all manner of commotion hither and thither. That place certainly had an 'edgy', 'urban' vibe.

Port Moresby - shot at

Moscow - wild dogs

Rio - had to spend some time in... interesting parts of town for work reasons (that probably went a bit too far)

But

Chorlton (the lovely part of S Manchester where I live) is the only place I've been set upon for no reason whatsoever :D

It's a tesco now.

Manchester. Had my face slashed open once, got mugged twice and was punched in the face for not giving some cunt my last cigarette. What a shithole that town is.

Moscow - wild dogs

Been going there for years, and the dogs aren't so much of a problem except hanging around the street kiosks in packs, looking for grub. The filthy mongrels take rides on the metro too. Sometimes you have to step over them. :D Some of the big sprawling housing estates in the suburbs are dodgy.

1. Sabra and Shatila refugee camp, South Beirut.

2. Darra Adam Khel, in the Tribal Areas of Pakistan.

3. Kurdish/Arab border checkpoints near Mosul, Iraq.

Honourable mentions must go to the pubs of North/West Belfast and the South Bronx back in the day.

Some dodgy Loyalist boozer in Ballyclare keeping in mind i'm from Dublin it wasn't the wisest move then again my friends wanted a game of snooker....

Lima with the exception of Mirraflorres at night is well fucking dodgy.

Kuta in Bali laugh if you must but the amount of fuckers I seen cut up (and robbed by locals) and others nicked by extremley corrupt coppers (for traffic accidents and other 'offences') in 4 days for next to nothing was unreal. Not to mention I was there on the anniversery of the Bali bombings, clubs had blokes with machine guns searching you on entry for bombs it makes you think....

Another vote for Newport.

Cabrini Green, Chicago at 2am, pissed up and takinbg a short cut.

Port Vale, seperated from my mates and chased by 50 Stoke!

Can you sign it for me? ; )

As for dangerous places, sorry i have nothing as scary as the previous posts.
