Dafur - what can one do?

It should also be noted that "sunni muslims" is a misleading generalisation for Sudan.

Yes, technically, the majority of the Muslim population is Sunni, but the Sufis have a huge influence there, and Islam in Sudan is also quite influenced by indigenous traditions...

Chaps,

Just read an article in Saturday's FT. The story was not that harrowing but explained what was happening to lots of innocent people. They are being slaughtered and there's not alot that the international community is doing about it.

I'm normally a lazy, apathetic, "stick head in sand", kinda guy when it comes to overseas news but this article got me thinking that I should change that attitude or at least do something.

What can I do? Ask my MP why he hasn't kicked up a fuss in PMQT? My Euro MP? Dunno really so I'm asking here.

Please advise,

You could organise a useless march or petition.Won't do any good but will make you feel better..

There were British companies involved in the Sudanese oilfields:

Rolls Royce

and a firm called Weir.

I don't know if they still are.

If they were, pressure could be brought upon them.

Yeah, write to your MP. Why not?

Better still support Medecins Sans Frontieres, the one aid organisation I saw out there that REALLY makes a difference.

I guess the problem really is twofold though:

a) China got in early on the oil. The rest of the world is scared of missing out, hence things like the US quietly building realtions with the regime (Sudan was part of the axis of evil not so long ago). They won`t want to piss Khartoum off to badly, in acse the Chinese get everything.

b) Any outside intervention involving the West will scupper any small chance the Sudanese opposition has of real change.

:(

Really fuckin sad.

Sudan is a beautiful country with amazing freindly people.
