I walked the Culloden battlefield a couple of weeks ago. It was absolutely pissing down and I was thinking of whingeing about this until I reflected that at least people weren't firing muskets and grapeshot at me.

Well you are correct to assume that my nation is the Scots; after all, my website is entitled, "Peter Dow's Scottish National Standard Bearer" website.
However, I would like to mention my dual nationality - I also consider myself a Briton. I consider myself both Scottish and British.
However, my British nationality is not like most Britons who are more easily brainwashed by the BBC as they tell us what "being British" means.
As a republican I reject the United Kingdom, hate the fact that my passport is a "UK" one and never sing "God Save the Queen".
I have been known to fly the union flag though I oppose the treaty of union which founded the United Kingdom. I still believe that there is much for us on this island to unite around, though not the UK.
For me, the Union Flag or Union Jack is the flag of the British nation which is bigger and better than the UK could ever be.
It is a disappointment to me that both the Scots and the Britons have so far accepted a situation where the UK state is the master which enslaves the nations associated with this island.
It seems to me that the nations could if they so chose have a republican revolution to overthrow the UK and establish democratic republics but we have not done so yet.
I am questioning my fellow Scots and Britons why they settle for a state which rules the nations instead of being the servant of the nations which it would have to be if we democratically elected presidents as heads of republican states.

Threats from the United Kingdom (U.K.)
Much of the "Scottish oil", (if by that I presume you mean oil extracted from waters closer to Scotland than any other country), has been wasted though not lost altogether.
We Scots and Britons may be enslaved by the UK state but the UK state has spent some of its tax revenue on services for the people - health and welfare and so on.
Much of the tax revenues have been wasted and abused on denying people democratic constitutional freedoms.
I just have a problem with the SNP who say "It's Scotland's oil" but then when you actually pin them down as to who SHOULD rule Scotland, they spit out "Queen Elizabeth".
So the SNP policy amounts to a policy of "It is Queen Elizabeth's oil, now and even after we get independence". In the same way as everything in Scotland - the land of the mountain and the flood - hills and glens - the courts, the prisons, the police - all belongs to Queen Elizabeth and her dynasty, according to the SNP.
The SNP are actually opposed to Scottish national independence because they want us to continue to be enslaved to that Queen and her successors as head of state.
The SNP want an independent Queen's state in Scotland to enslave the Scots much as we are enslaved already by the state under the Queen's First Minister, Alex Salmond, leader of the SNP.
I know you didn't ask about all that - you only asked about "Scotland's oil" but political issues are more complex and not addressed by slogans alone.
Of course the oil taxes should be used more wisely - for example, by only giving money to universities which open their door to all good students. Just now, the universities get the money even if they exclude good students such as myself. I spoke about this on BBC Radio Scotland.
So for example, the "Scottish oil" money is being spent on my welfare payments and on the salaries of university managers and professors who are banning me from the universities here in Aberdeen and money on lawyers and courts fees and police and security guards to threaten to have me arrested and jailed or perhaps sectioned in a mental hospital if I was to dare to try to attend university when the management don't want me there.
It would be wiser to spend the same money on sacking those bad university managers and spend it instead on better university staff who INCLUDE outspoken students.
The issue of whether it is Scotland's oil or Britain's oil doesn't really address the more important issue of the stupid way the tax revenues are being misused in a way which BETRAYS ALL THE NATIONS of the island.
Of course I want a free Scotland whereby a student was free to attend university without being banned. However, only a good president of a republic would do that - the Queen and her ministers could not care less if a good student is being banned from university.
Those royalist politicians WANT politically challenging people like me banned from university in case we were to gain political support for the needed republican revolution.
Having republicans like me included, means stupid royalist politicians lose support and they don't want that.
So the royalist politicians are all for wasting the oil money - whether the SNP get the sort of "independent" Scotland they want or not.
