Daft Question about Dogs

Offer to look after one for a friend for the week then make a decision ;)

You'll get dogs that are a nightmare in every breed tbh

Kids can and do learn not to pull things on dogs and how to treat them with respect. Similarly lots of dog put up with huge amounts of shit from kids, it really depends on the dog. :)

*resists posting pic of own dog* :D

No Nooooo! Don't resist!!

I think you're right about nightmares in every breed. Also, I tried mentioning it to Mr Poot over dinner and he looked utterly disgusted at the idea (he's a cat person, I am a dog person, pure and simple. He will never have a cat because I am very allergic to them. So in a tit-for-tat fashion I think it's unlikely we'll ever have a dog, really. :( )

Ooh yes!

Please tell me about your dogs! I need pictures and explanations of whether or not they would wreck a house and eat a toddler and bark all day.

Errr... Preferably pictures where they're awake :D (though labs are  awake or not)

I'm loving your dogs!

Dammit. Now I really want one!
well, both my 2 come from a rescue place, and they are as soft as soft can be. (in Eddys case, litteraly :D ) Toby is now 8,he's a jack russel collie cross, missing loads of teeth and is blind in 1 eye. He's never been a problem at all,he was 16 months when we got him. We have a dog flap which he leart to use very quickly. So he was house trained within days. That'll be the collie in him, very clever animals they are. He barks at everyone going by the house, some would say that's the jack russel in him,but all dogs bark to protect their property and their group.

No idea what Eddy is,(possibly half panda, half coffee table and half freshian cow)he's 6 and has a metabolism thing going on I reckon. Cos both dogs eat them same food, and get the same exersize. Had him from 12 weeks old,and he was a little bugger with reguards to eating stuff he shouldn't. Glasses, remote controls, shoes, sofa cushions and even the windowsil. He's got over that now, thankfully. :D

They're both very mild mannered, and have always been good with people and dogs. (appart from Tobys slightly risky hobby of growling at Alsations,Rottys and much bigger dogs) I think the fact that they keep eachother company through the day helps with the boredom issue, cos they can wind eachother up all day long. And they do!!

They don't wreck the house, eat toddlers or bark all day, although they will bark if someone comes to the door. A labrador puppy, on the other hand, would wreck the house if left unattended, and if you get a rescue dog you don't know how it has been treated in the past.

Get a rabbit. Or a ferret. You can take ferrets for walks and everything. Or a mongoose!

Badger and Noodle (shortly after Noodle came on the scene which is why she looks so emaciated).

Oh my god! My old dog from when I was young looked just like your black lab. Same expression, same white patch, everything! Awww... *weeps*

Labrador puppies would make a toddler look like Brian Sewell. They are utterly bonkers. That's why they have to be so cute- so you don't feel the urge to hurl them out of the nearest window when they inevitably chew the DVD player, eat the telephone and poo on your vinyl collection.

why? every dog i've ever had/known would hate that. they like their sleep too much and need a bit of space to themselves.

I don't mean sit there staring it out all day. I mean make sure you have time to exercise it and play with it.

The rescue we got our dog from is full of dogs that had been given up due to misbehaving, because their owners didn't spend enough time with them.
